OcUK Photo Comp - Season Five : Round Four - "Yellow" DISCUSSION

TBH go back there and take a pic of your gf in the field, sure it will be easier on the eye jk :D

Bwahahahaha :) Yeah no question there! Problem is, I live in London, and the field was somewhere south of Bath... that's a long day trip to take a photo of the girl in a rapeseed field LOL :D

Good reply... . Same could be said for the decision made.

Give the judges some credit, they spend several hours of their free time marking these competitions with zero gain.

The competition may be for FUN, but all competitions require rules, these rules sometimes get discussed and some get taken into consideration and sometimes even implemented. But ultimately the rules that do get chosen ARE chosen by the judges and no-one else.

And besides what is the fuss? As has already been said the guys gf has been accredited and he's accepted it.

As I said last time when you got disqualified for posting a picture 7 minutes after the deadline (which you also weren't happy about because it's a competition for "FUN"), rules are rules.

How's that for a reply? ;)

Bah, does anyone know how long rapeseed flowers for? :D

NO :p - but I would like to know what you did to create the photo you posted i.e. maintaining the yellow with all else b&w. Is it just a case of manually selelecting bits to keep in colour and converting the rest to b&w or is there some other trickery involved. I've googled but couldn't find owt.

Cheers

LOL - that's not my one - my one is the ugly chap standing in a field of flowers...

Doing the black and white thing but maintaining the 'yellow' or any other colour for that matter is a technique called colour masking.

that is one way to do it - I'd suggest having a read of some of these tutorials:

Usually a couple of months minimum i think going by fields that are around my way or right next door to my house, depending on the year. By next door i mean walk out gate turn right and field right in front of me but unfortunately isnt rapeseed in field this year blah.

a quick thanxs to Fstop11 for commenting that my photo may be valid as i assumed automatically it would be disqualified from the compo

can anyone tell me if my photo is allowed or not:

painting(small).jpg

5 second exposure in a car at night with a colour invert - taken on friday night

i assumed it would be disqualified under the excessive use of photoshop rule. if a judge could say either way it would be appreciated before i submit it.

Whilst I cannot comment on the suitability of an entry I would like to point you at the following section of the rules:

A '-' sign next to the recommendation means you will lose marks.
<snip>
- Overuse or misuse of Photoshop or other Image Editing programs

You will not be disqualified for over-using photoshop but you may lose points.

HTH :)

Broadbandplacey that picture looks awsome :D I would think of it as a piece of art rather than a photo!

NoLimit...for your info, I don't think your EXIF is embedded. I use FireFox and IEXIF to view - You may want to check it.

Great picture by the way. Thats one of the places my wife and I want to go when our daughter is older.

To me personally, inverting colors to produce a negative of the image isn't as excessive as say, selective coloring. But then, thats only me! :)

Neither - altho "excessive photoshopping" is a little ambiguous and somewhat open to interpretation - is it the percentage of the image photoshopped, or the number of time the image has been 'processed' in Photoshop.

I suspect that most people do a auto level on their images followed by a sharpen - I don't think that is excessive at all and that is altering the majority of the image...

A colour invert is nothing huge...

I think the excessive photoshopping is more to do with if the photographer has made the image worse by using photoshop, which will result in a negative mark.
