OcUK Photo Comp - Season Five : Round Three - "Work" DISCUSSION

As cyKey says, it's a great way to develop your photography, and there's nothing like these compos to help you to scrutinise your images and see exactly what you need to do to improve. Don't give up!
 
Ive got to agree with the above comments, I feel its better to enter the competition and take any feedback you can get, it helps you learn what makes a good photo to others.
I generally score quite low, this season im hoping I can beat last years average, forget about trying to win the comp and simply try to improve on your own previous results. If you have a bad round, try extra hard the next round.
 
I have always scored fairly low. My last entry was really good - I made a massive improvement but I enjoy taking pictures and the end 'mark' does not matter to me.

It does not matter if you do not score as highly as you would like to and if you make an improvement one round, you may lose some points the next round but that is the way things go!

It is very easy to ask a judge what they personally think of your picture when the results are posted and then use that to improve for next round!

Dude, don't give up, so what if your ranking near the bottom, do you enjoy photography ?, thats all that matters is'nt it ?, who cares about ranking anyhows it the taking part that counts, I've been playing counter strike online for years now and I don't think I,ve ever got passed the halfway mark on the rankings, am I botherd, nope, b-cos I just enjoy playing the game,

I,ve only been into photography for just under a year so don't have great advice to offer but one thing i'd say is don't try to hard be a good photographer, just enjoy taking photos.

You should do what some people on here do. Pick people who you are next to in the season totals and try to beat them. :) Kind of like a friendly league for people in the same ability level or whatever. Why should the people at the top of the table have all the fun eh? :)
 
ooooh, my Canon IXUS 400 is still broken and i have no other camera, so i didn't think i would be entering this round. But, my flatmate has just got back from America with a brand new Canon 350D :D So hopefully i'll get to play with it and be able to enter my first DSLR photo in the comp :)

Psilonaught, don't give up dude, as others have said it's not where you rank that matters, it's enjoying taking photos and learning from others :) and anyway who says that the judges scores are correct! ;) I also think your entry this round is on eof the stronger ones there :)

Totally agree, you have a great picture in this round. Its a shame the ships name or part of it is not included in the lower part of the picture.

I haven't even got a clue what to do!! I had an idea but don't think it will be logistally possible given the time plus Danza seems to have had the same sort of idea as me!

Looks much better full size, but will still be updating / changing it.

Rescued this thread from page five!

Some bad news:

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to judge this round of the competition - I'm still having problems getting my internet connection back up at home, nildram screwed up my house move request and now there's no space for me at the exchange! :mad: :mad: :mad:

I might be back online on the 18th but I'm not holding my breath - I have to wait for BT to install more kit ... whenever that is.
 
Just wondering if Nolimits photo was taken at a porn movie shoot.... :S

All I can make out is a load of blokes, a big movie camera and a semi-nekkid lady... looks promising.

Any more pics from that shoot can be emailed to my trust address btw. :D

Just spotted 2 rule breakers, I would like to point them out in plenty of time giving the entrants oppertunity to change them, rG-tom and yak.h'cir
