OcUK Photo Comp - Season Nine : Round Eight - "Artificial Light" RESULTS

Well his right arm is blurred, therefore moving. So he's spinning something.
At first I thought sparkler, but the lines seem a bit short, so something which gives off a much larger stream, something poi related either way is my guess :)

From Mr Jones' Flickr:

Home made wire wool 'poi' using a metal coat hanger and twisted with a pliers to hold balls of wire wool.

No one was burnt. I only use a handful of wire wool balled into a metal stick with a 'clip', made out of a coat hanger. This helped keep a constant distance between the spinner and the ball - perhaps this and the centrifugal force helped with the lack of burning on my brave assistant.

Yup yup~

I have seen people done stuff like that and always wanted to try it out. Last month theme of 'Artificial Light' pushed me to try it. Yes I know fire is very natural but in a place like a tunnel, it's not very natural to see fire and sparks :p

If you guys are going to try this, please make sure you have a bucket of water near by, don't want anyone burning themselves. Remember to use fine wire wool as that gives more sparks compared to the coarser wool.

Edit: Oh and the harder you spin, the more sparks will fly!

Nice photo, but perhaps it's just a bit cramped around the fireworks - could do with an extra cm of black space to either side, I think.

Well exposed and a great capture. I would have liked to see the fireworks having more room to breathe in the frame.

Its just a little to tight a crop.

Thankyou :)

Its not actually cropped, apart from removing the people infront of the fireworks in PS its all I did. It was taken on portrait mode on a DX sensor.

Does this mean I have an excuse to go FX :p

It keeps bouncing back!

Ah, just looked into it. A single erroneous newline char in a script was preventing me receiving anything with an attachment. Can you give it one more go?

Thanks :)

*edit* just seen you try, and it get kicked back by the mailserver again. I've disabled the troublesome script. Can you try once more?

Sorry. Stupid thing didn't get tested enough :(
