OcUK Photo Comp - Season Six : Round Two - "Still Life" RESULTS

Whilst we're moaning :p I also think that the 'Impact' criteria should be renamed 'Aesthetic' or something - for example my shot for Still Life was pretty low impact, but still got a fairly good score in that category.

I'm a muppet. I've just screwed the stats database. This may take me a while to fix :( Not majorly, it's just that everyone's large image is now lord_scotts entry in this round. Thumbnails seem ok though.

I'm glad i didn't change my entry now! Happy with joint 12th overall. But i too find the marking for theme slightly odd. I thought i hit the nail on the head regarding theme for this round, but obviously not. ;)

Well done yak.h'cir, whilst not being technically a 'classic' still life it's a great shot inspired by a magazine article that even I read and went 'hmm, i wonder'. I decided to go with my JellyBabies and am very pleased that I scored top marks for theme ! Tech let me down but I'm glad to be in the top 5 and mixing again with the good photographers that haunt this site. Not a bad effort when i took it 3 hrs before the deadline ;)

I must say, I really liked your shot. But I've just noticed that the sugar is looking a bit iffy, burned out in the middle with a big grey blob encroaching the border. Perhaps that's part of the reason you didn't score higher. Nice shot though ;)

Just seen the new stats site. Very nice growse. The gallery is an excellent addition ;)

Ta - I'm always adding bits, so any suggestions on improvements / new things welcome. I know some bits of it need tidying up a tad...

WOW! Thank you very much everyone, I really was not expecting to win at all. :p

I was just feeling very tired having just returned from work but now I feel super happy! :) :) :)

Hmmmm. Never considered I would ever have to think of a theme for a comp, i will have to get my thinking cap on... I am living in Canada at the moment so maybe the theme could be frozen rivers :D

A lot of low scoring shots, but I think still life as judged was not necessarily still life as many of us saw it.

Totally agree, look at windle and Helium Junkie's shots, absolutely bang on still life and marked down on theme. Blackvault takes a nature/natural life shot and gets marked higher than Colin da Killers

Sorry for singling out individuals but IMO there is inconsistency in the judging here.

mks2005 was disqualified as his image was a bmp. However having checked the entry thread its a jpg. I really don't understand why this is happening as it happened to Alex last month.

Growse, I've emailed them to your trust address.

I'm curious about this because I noticed an entry which listed as jpg, but linked to a BMP. I think it was Tuarens and it only seemed to happen to me (IE6), he would get a JPG linked to.
It could be that particular image host, might be worth checking which hosts were used by all missing entries.

well done yak, but i have to agree the judging is going out a bit even if a shot is super technical and has loads of impact there should be some sort of restriction to marks in them field if it doesnt score highly on the theme, because the compotition is theme based not solely about peoples abilities. should have made me a judge :D

Ouch!

54th out of 63. Thought i would have at least done well on the Theme section as mine matched almost to the letter the definition of a Still Life shot :(

Well done to the winner, hopefully i'll do better in this round!

"still life
n., pl. still lifes.
Representation of inanimate objects, such as flowers or fruit, in painting or photography."
