OCUK RWYB Drag Meet 2 - Saturday March 25th - Santa Pod Raceway

Realised how loud my car was today, chasing an AMG down and all I could hear was my car even when he was booting his.

What is really bad when I pull off from the failed burn out it looks like I get a real good launch. Then when I go to actually launch the car it mess it up and just wheel spin through 1st and 2nd. More practice or just throw slicks on the back. :D

you get a good launch and then it slows down and picks up again, it looks like you've lost about 1/3 of a second, the Fiesta pulls ahead but of course doesn't have the grunt to stay ahead.

yes maybe slicks and a good burnout first, because you loosing acceleration through 1st and 2nd is very noticeable..............but your car sounds great and it looks bloody good near the finish line ;)

I suspected I had a boost leak somewhere. Car used to boost at 23.7psi with the map. Now it's at 22.3psi. Both numbers are from 2-4K. I can tell something is not right.

Is my assumption right? Any opinions?

@Gibbo just needs to get into snap city for a run* ;)

*I cant judge as I wont use LC1 lol but Gibbo definitely should :D

Look for split pipes or any loose/broken clips.

I had one of the intercooler pipes split on the mondeo and it was just a £15 silicon hose off ebay to fix it. The problem is working out which one it is, unless it's a big rip it's hard to see

Is that a hint that you were there and didn't come and say hello? :p

ha ha, no i was on a 10-6 shift, i need to work an extra 2 days a week to cover the cost of a new car ;);)
i doubt i'd go to the Pod anyway, because it would cost a fortune in petrol from where i live............even with the Jazz. i wonder what will happen when Shakespear Raceway closes, but i cant see a Drag strip down south can you ? ............ the only viable place is to return to Blackbushe, but i cant see the residents approving it.

The RAF based down south tend to host drag racing in the Summer, I went in my last Mustang and got a 12.4@124mph, the air force bases are great fun as great for road cars just being a regular surface and they also will let you prat around a bit, just do not do it near the guys with guns, tends to end badly. :D

The older Mustang was better for drag racing, as had no worries about breaking anything, way way tougher being live axle in the rear, built like a tank so just hammer them off the line and smash those gears in. :D

Yeah I had the egr to intercooler go on my Mondeo. Easy to identify. This car is a bit of a pig as everything is hidden. Going to check tomorrow, if I find one split. I'll just get the hardpipe kit. It eliminates most of the joins where boost can leak from which is a bonus.

Anyone who's had a custom exhaust made, what are prices like for a 2.25" turbo back?

Might remap it back to the bluefin. No wonder revo stopped the old pd170 map.

Oh no a minor boost leak. Time to revert the engine mapping and replace all of the hoses with silicone ones :p ;)

yes, i just did a Google but saw nothing, if it wasn't for the local residents we'd probably get Blackbushe again (Camberley surrey)............this strip was like York but had a better staging/start line area...........i dont think the owners mind it's the residents, too noisy.

i think the street racers will probably go to York raceway, (from what i've just read) because the Pod doesn't seem that popular, strange because even back in the 80s it wasn't that popular either.

you want a burger van, a tree to **** behind and a drag strip in a sunny field :p

Don't recommend the entrance/road into york raceway if you have anything other than a Range Rover/soft suspension. :p

It's that bad I don't bother going anymore.

yea i've read that it has a dodgy drag strip too, it needs digging up and redoing.
but i bet it's lovely on a summer day, has a great atmosphere and it's easy to stroll around and get close to the cars.

just took a look on a map, flipping heck, it's twice as far away as the Pod, so maybe £200 in petrol total for there and back to Southampton, compared to maybe £80 for the Honda Jazz (as a spectator only) it's hard to say, because the Jazz definitely isn't 46mpg when i'm driving it.
