OCUK RWYB Drag Meet 3 - Saturday September 16th - Santa Pod Raceway

Much better today in terms of runs. I managed 10 before having to shoot off. Though my gearbox is pretty much eol now. And not 100% if my clutch is going or I was spinning all 4. Now I'm home and thought about it I suspect clutch considering just how bad some of the shifts were.

Had a great day at Shakey with @Gibbo

Managed

Old best was an 11.6

Today did 11.512, 11.468, 11.441, and a best of 11.340!!

Best terminal was on the 11.451 at 129.20mph.

Odd day for me.

Highs and lows

Came away taking fastest turbo and fastest mk2 for the MX5 shootout, only beaten for outright fastest by a 2JZ Swapped MK1.

But....I'm not sure if it's me or the gearbox but 5 out of 9 runs I managed to miss at least one shift, and had a slight crunch into at least one gear on the rest, normally I don't have a single issue.

It may just be because I'm trying to shift faster than the box likes, I may have another one with the combo of torque and abuse from hard/fast shifts and Flat shift

I am super happy, even in the M3 I find it harder to launch at Shakey, I got 4 runs:

13.3@110
12.9@111
13.4@109
13.3@101

I bailed on my last run due to excessive wheel hop, I really messed up the launch and the tyres were going from spin to hop.

End of the day I was over the moon to get my 12 because for an E46 that it seriously quick, a lot of the V8 E92 struggle to hit 12's because in real world drag racing is not as easy as you think it is unless you own a GTR. ;)

Still happy, I achieved that 2nd run time by moving gearbox into S6 for whole run, dropped rears to 30psi and though the launch was not perfect the car did not have too much wheelspin so I kept my foot in and banged it through the gears and well it worked.

Next visit the car shall be a further 50kg lighter so need to be seeing a 12.7 area me thinks. :D

Internal footage from my best run of the day. Got the 1.9 60ft I've been hunting

After looking at the others I think my shift issues are all driver problems. Looks like I'm trying to shift too hard and trying to go 2nd to 5th.

Maybe Kosta can give you some tips on cramming the gear in with zero mechanical sympathy for the car :D

;)

That's the problem I'm ramming it in with zero mechanical sympathy, I either miss the gear or get a tiny bit of crunch.

I just don't think these gearboxes like being drive this hard

See you used hand brake too to prepare the car, guys were suggesting this to me today, not something I bothered with though as I'd probably just burn my clutch up lol.

What was the car next to you, it sounded pretty nice?

I started doing it last time we visited pod. It does seem be helping as I'm consistently getting 2.0x 60fts with the one rogue 1.97 rather than my usual 2.1-2.2

Was a mustang, ran a 12.75 @ 115 against my 13.07 @ 105

Explains why it sounded so good haha, could not make it out in video just a white car walking away as you pass the 1/8 that will be the extra 150 horses or so he has coming into play. Was it my shape one or the S197 generation? Either way must have being running a tune or had a very good driver to make it go sub 13 stock.

Was an S550 didn't get chance to speak to him so not sure on mods. He had a CC number so he's runs regularly for the RWYB challenge

I ran alongside him back in Feburary as well(Have a photo from BP showing him how a burnout is done)

Clutch slip like pro yo :o and how not to do drag racing !

1.83 60ft, 13.13 seconds @ 103mph - first and best run of the day. I tried shortshfting into 4th, seems it nether hindered nor helped.

Not quite as dramatic as Frozenova mind :)
