OCUK RWYB Drag Meet 3 - Saturday September 16th - Santa Pod Raceway

See you used hand brake too to prepare the car, guys were suggesting this to me today, not something I bothered with though as I'd probably just burn my clutch up lol.

It's something I've always done when sprinting, slightly different discipline though as reaction times are irrelevant so there's no need to hold high revs waiting for the lights plus the beam setup isn't as sophisticated as we only have a single beam and I'm generally trying to start as far behind it as I can get away with :D

Haha yeah there is many things I can try with the SMG, within reason as I also don't want to destroy the clutch or gear box because even though its not insanely expensive, its also not MX5 cheap still, so I just try to be as quick as possible whilst not taking risk on mechanical sympathy, the downside is it means I am less consistent, but practice will help and so far my first to drag days with the M3 have being crap spoiled by poor weather. Am gonna practice on road though as I've discovered I can launch an SMG without necessarily using LC and supposedly there is an emergency get away mode as well which you activate by kicking the throttle harsh half way and then go full. Supposedly it will perform a quick get-away with wheelspin, being told if I do this and follow with full throttle its possible to go as low as 1.9s 60ft with the SMG, so something to try in future. :D

1.9 60ft should be easy for the SMG I've now done it with a manual.

Two MX5s broke Halfshafts saturday (One "370bhp" and one with a 3UZ-FE)

Yes but SMG is not like a traditional auto where you just floor it, do that and it will just to a big burnout or break itself on drag strip. Either just ease it, give it a kick and then power or try LC, people say LC if it grips will launch hard and fast, but it can break a half shaft (rare) but if it does not grip it will like just wheelspin/hop and have to lift out. The easy part with SMG is changing gears, just pull paddles or hit the stick, but launching is not your typical auto stomp it affair, hence manual M3's at drag strip generally tend to post faster times, though its very rare an E46 goes sub 12's, even CSL's. :)

The 370HP one wasn't the mental looking blue NB with white tyre lettering, big spoiler, fixed hard top, bonnet vents etc, owner by a guy called Taylor?

Yea was Taylor Soutter's car, broke a shaft on his first run I think

I came home with these

His car is definitely putting out the quoted figures, it's fully forged with some big Garrett on it. The dyno runs and the full engine build etc are on the Youtubes!

Shame he broke it lol :p

It ain't winning if it's broke.

Tbf it was at pod a few months back and wasn't doing any better than high 13s iirc

Sub 12?

I didn't have a great day on Saturday.

I went from consistent 109-110mph runs before down to consistent 106mph.

Santa Pod managed to not record all of my runs, so I was a bit unawares of what I was doing right/wrong whilst also not pulling off the best runs.

But hey ho I beat an M5, got pipped by a 380bhp DSG Golf R, and got thrashed by the new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio :D

Videos below:

Pics that I bought (was waiting for snaps from the darker runs, but nothing as of yet):

A few months back it wasn't forged and had some Chinese turbo on it. No clue what the power figures were back then though!

Grats on your wins though, that's pretty awesome. Especially since I bet yours was one of the most understated there in terms of appearance! :D

Kosta do you know what terminal speed that Alfa had, made you look like you were going backwards, it just flew past.

120mph Gibbo. Ran an 11.9 at the end of the day.

510bhp and DSG for you! Believe he was launching in 2nd though. 1.9s 60fts I think?

Did not realise they were that quick, very impressive indeed for a big saloon and yeah of course the DSG helps, though I think against you DSG is slower haha, will say one thing that Subaru has a strong clutch and gearbox to take the abuse you dish out to it. :D

120mph and above is certainly the area of mega fast stuff, can't wait to get the new Stang and see what it does stock. :D
