OcUK Ryzen 9 3950X review thread

We around 150 orders on for these now.
Thanks for confirming Gibbo. Had my new build ready waiting for this since August (for when it was originally due in Sept lol) and strongly considering cancelling for a 3900x. I know I'll regret it though and have a gaming laptop in the meantime to use, so no hurry, just want it to hurry up and arrive haha.

Haha luckily the RAM I bought has only dropped by £6!

I'd normally agree and wait, but I already had my GPU (got an external dock for the laptop) so I only really needed a MoBo RAM case and fans. Somehow got an insane deal on the MSI MoBo and it came with a free CPU cooler (Coolermaster ML240R) so I pulled the trigger fully hoping the CPU would ACTUALLY arrive in September :( luckily price wise it hasn't backfired (yet lol).

Since my bank failed me here (TSB at fault here no OCuk) and i was really quick dang it should have used paypal. I was so sad i missed it but managed to get me one from elsewhere and a bit cheaper as well the same day, they just took the money so hoping that it will arrive at some point. Now time to look for ram, mobo, and cooler. Happy days so long p775 Q9550 you served me well all these years.

I know there are so many good 16GB kits but i need a 2x16GB and cannot find anything. I was set in getting the G.Skill TridentZ Neo 2x16GB f4-3600c16d-32gtznc (They Hynix one) because of the looks and also its 3600 without faffing with some hope to get it to 3733 (would like the bdie version of them but cannot afford £320 on it its stupid). Problem with the Neos is I have to get them from abroad as UK is not selling them. OCUK parent company Caseking has them in DE and they post here but they are a bit more expensive.

Any alternative 2x16gb kits and reasons to avoid the neos?

I'm using 2x16GB Corsair Domintor Platinums 3466mhz and they run at 3733mhz. I actually have 2 sets.

Those also i cannot find easily, found them around £244 i think while the neos i can get for roughly 175 for the Hynix version. Not sure if its worth it to spend more for ram to be honest 175 still sounds a lot when you can get the balistix for 120ish and clock the hell out of it. I just don't like how they look and don't want to be fiddling a lot and get dissappointed that they don't do 3600 with my luck I know they won't.

I would personally, if you're willing to spend the money again next year.

Are you going to see a noticeable difference between the 2?

The 3900X and 3950X are closer than the jump from 3700x to 3900x, i want to get the best 4000 series chip (last in series) in the end that will allow me to sit on my new X470 motherboard for at least 5 years.

What is the 4000 series going to to do the mighty 3950?
I think Zen 3 is going for a 15% IPC uplift, might squeeze another 100MHz or so out of the clocks, but probably more the base clock. TSMC's 6nm drops the power usage down a touch too. I have a feeling that AMD will use the reduced node size to spread out the transistors a little, rather than increase transistor density, so that should help thermals as well.

If the 3950X is dialled to 11, then the 4950X will probably be at 13.

I used PayPal Credit. It even failed once saying no payment method selected, and I still managed to get the #3rd CPU.
