OcUK TrackDay: Donnington 22nd August - £135!

Just keep an eye out on forums and the usual auction sites as they crop up more often than you'd think, also most people aren't prepared to ship them so arranging your own courier or taking an hours drive can really pay off, hence my getting 2x 225/45/17 RE070's with 5mm of tread on them for less than £5!

I've got 8 in my garage at the moment, 2 in 225/45/17 and 6 in 235/45/17 size at the moment, got carried away and forgot to check because i really wanted 225 width... All in various states of worn downness, 2 which will need puncture repairs which really annoyed me after they arrived! In 2 minds weather to sell on the 235's as i need matching sizes all round on the scoob as i dont want to explode the centre diff!

I was on road tyres actually, Bridgestone RE070's as i tend to come accross them cheap, the whole set on the car at donny cost me £8 :D

RE070 are a nice tyre, very similar to AD08 if I remember, sticky with a stiff sidewall.

Porsche let me get away with MPSS, would still preferre AD08 though, but think I shall just get some CUP's, Porsche are fine with them as they have a Porsche tax added. :D

Yeah otherwise you will feature in a video with subtitles :D

Well learnt my lesson, next time its a drive through pit lane penalty for me when that happens in future. :D

Are you saying you think the AD08s have more grip than the MPSS?

Yeah definetely in the dry, but the MPSS are better in the wet for sure.

Infact MPSS have hardly any more grip than PS2's, but they are a lot better under braking than the PS2's were and far superior in the wet.

A few guys in US run on AD08's for sprints, all show the same, AD08 is better for dry use than MPSS. Then CUPs are the best in the dry bar slicks of course. Don't get me wrong, MPSS is a superb tyre, it offers marginally more dry grip than the PS2, better feedback, better braking, far superior in the wet and most of all it last 2-3x longer for track use than the PS2. I've done 6 track days on my MPSS and about 6000 road miles, still approx 4-5mm on them. :)

Im going to have to get a pair on the back of this thing too - its got re050's (225/40/17) on the front that are nearly new, but some odd brand on the back 'linglong' rofl (255/40/17).
Doubt they will do me any good for gaining confidence :)

I really loved RE050's when i had them on my old teg, probably my favourite road tyre i've used to date. I've currently got RE050A's on as my road tyres and there a lot better in the wet and almost as good in the dry.
