I never seen such a device although that would be quite helpful :p

The only option I can think of would be a USB gigabit adapter and PCI SATA card.

I can't comment on Gigabit usb but from what I remember of using 10/100 usb adapters they aren't great.

Ive actually found one by a quick google, had a gigabit lan and 3 sata ports albeit only one internal unfortunately its been discontinued, maybe the bay of e will have something :)

Just found it aswell :p

As you say - all seem to be out of stock / discontinued.

/EDIT

The only other thing cropping up is a Lindy 5 port SATA Multiplier but for the cost of this you may as well just buy a better board to start with.

I would be cautious of usb network adapters for driver support and whether they would improve in speed over the on-board fast ethernet.

You can get dual PCI riser/extensions that might help.

Not only would this make a great super-budget PC (<£100 w/o monitor), but at that price it has to be a more versatile alternative to a NAS enclosure.

Most expensive part would be the OS, unless you could find a free* copy somewhere...

(* Linux of course)

Nath, any chance of something similar to this being done but with one of the D series atoms, I would love something like this for a linux server build but as it stands I think its just a bit toooo lightweight..

Would this be sufficient as a small FTP server (to take backups of my web server) or would I be better off going for something like this with a cheap AMD chip? Also will it run with PC2-5300/6400 ram but downgrade it?

I'm going to buy one this morning for NAS duties.

Answering the question above, the user manual for the motherboard linked on page 1 refers to the motherboard accepting 800mhz memory :)

What is the power consumption of these ?

I have been looking at various atom systems, some consume 40-50w others 10w.
It appears to be all down to the chipset used for the same spec.

Well it has a 180w psu, so say that is at %60 load, and say it's %70 efficient, works out to be just under 100w.

That's a rough maybe just about possibly guestimation though. :D

Mine arrived yesterday, whacked 2GB ram and win7 ultimate on it, it runs well. Nothing fandy but it works as i had intented.

OcUK if you want a suggestion, try and find a case that takes LOTS of hard drives for this, and use a board that has a PCIe slot on it (for RAID cards).

That way people can use this as a server.
