*** OcUK VR Sim Racing Thread ***

I used to work in a Go-Kart track 25 years ago so put about 500 hours or something into real karts. Game karts aren't even remotely close to how they handle. You don't steer with the wheel with a kart. You touch the break, nudge the wheel slightly, move your body weight and skid around corners.

Haven't played for ages but used to take part in the Assetto Corsa OcUK TT Challenge! which was great and I still miss.
I've just relocated my rig to the new PC room at home so I'll up for some (slow) fun :p

1)Games I have are: AC and ACC
2)Can probably do once per week or fortnight.
3)Something very easy as I'm way out of practice :)

Ditto, I miss the TT challenge, was great fun as hotlapping goes!

I've not VR raced before, but spend an awful lot of time on rally games and mods on AC.

1. AC or AMS2
2. Weekly/monthly/every couple of weeks. Happy to go with the majority.
3. Saloon cars 80s/90s BTCC etc. or open wheels, something low powered for closer racing. Skip/Formula Ford etc. Again, happy to go with what's picked.

Been getting back into AMS2 recently, only just had my Quest 3 delivered so will set that up and see how my VR legs are in the sim rig. Could be disasterous :D

Fired up AMS2 for the first time last night for a couple of laps. VR performance is excellent.
I am getting a lot of dropouts to my headset though. I'm hoping it's because my router is currently hidden behind my screen. I'll move it and see if it improves.

To really make it shine you need to change two settings in the ini file. It makes everything much sharper.
Will find the details and post later this evening.

there's a line near the bottom which reads
<prop name="SharpeningStrength" sharpeningstrength="0.000000" />
Change the 0,00000 to 1.0
save the file.
It uses up some fps though, it isn't free so if you're borderline 90fps currently you'll start dipping to 85fps with sharpening etc

I don't use it as it makes distant objects start to alias.

If you're on Nvidia GPU then create an AMS2 profile in the Nvidia Control Panel "Manage 3D Settings" page
then change:-
Antialiasing mode - Enhance Application settings
Antialiasing Settings - 2x (or higher if you wish - but will start to blur the image)
Antialiasing Transparency - 2x (Supersample)

This gets rid of a lot of the aliasing in the game.

Thanks for the tips. I've applied settings and everything's still running great. No idea on framerate but feels good (running on a 2070super since I refuse to pay 1k for a gfx card) :)
Moved my router and no more dropouts.

My goodness I'm rusty. Can barely keep the car on the track :o

Just seen the update to the first post and now feel really sorry for @iseedeadpixels

I'm terrible

I've been testing various cars to try and pick a good all-rounder, with the aim for fun rather than more serious racing. Let's start with the basics and move upwards :D

The formula junior (not the advanced one!) is a right laugh. It's probably the closest to the skippy from iracing and should bring the field closer together.

Hopefully sometime soon we can try out a practice session. I've not played AMS2 for a while, so need to get setup and remember my way around everything.

I'm around most evenings just need a heads up, set up ams 2 last night although still needs a little tweaking as a 1080ti and 3700x isn't as ideal as the 5800x3d and 4090 :(
I like the junior open wheeled cars, should be fun :D

Edit not Mondays ;)

I'm assuming one evening weekdays would suit most people? Say around 8pm when most have got in from work, had dinner etc etc?

Last Thursday of the month at 8pm for the Race. I can also look at setting up practice sessions throughout the month as a general get together.

We don't want to over complicate things with quali sessions etc etc so maybe a random grid, which mixes it up nicely. The last thing we want it some max verstappen in the group to race off into the distance everytime lol

I may be up for this as well.. i've not really done racing in VR.. I tried project cars 2 in VR a couple of times.. (literally a lap or two) and could barely keep it on the track.. but happy to join in if the day / time suits.. and you need the numbers.

I have most of the games already other than iRacing..

I would love to give something like this a go. But I am really, really bad at car racing games. I don't have any of the games mentioned, I don't have a wheel or a controller. Can't remember the last car game I played, GTA V I think. As part of the hangout crew we tried the Kart racing in Rec Room, it was terrible.

Which game are you most likely to go with?

The Thursday night is great as it's the only night of the week that suits me. Unless Saturday or Sunday at the weekend.
