**OcUK WILL NOW BUILD A GAMING LAPTOP (HD 7970M) TO YOUR SPECIFICATION: LAPTOP CONFIGURATOR!!**

Does this one have the Enduro: off option in bios? Otherwise this really isn't going to win you many fans. There's an internet full of people with issues with Enduro and intel (basically the dedicated GPU doesn't turn on properly with Enduro which obviously makes one of the best gaming graphics cards around at the moment rather pointless).

A good idea, but that leaves a big hole in the side of the machine??

You can get a lot of case matching "caddies" that go in the same hole. Basically just a pass through for the mini sata + power thing laptop opticals run off. Lump of plastic with a hole for a 2.5" drive, regular sata+power connector and you typically fit the faceplate from your drive back onto the caddy/housing (or they come with a couple of basic colour efforts that do the job well enough.

It's a nice solution for a second hard drive with those laptops that only have the 1 2.5" bay.

They say pictures are worth a thousand words, in this case I think I agree:

One of these.

Definitely worth sourcing a few that match the look of the Clevo's. The self powered USB caddy things are pretty funky too. I think most people would find another hard drive slot several times more useful than an optical drive (you can still put the ODD back in of course if you want).

I would also like to know about this as I have read a few things which is putting me off.

Give it time, Optimus was not made in a day :D

Regards.

It's been several months though. I also understand that AMD have been actively deleting posts on the Notebook Review forum relating to this issue.

Sounds like it could be an problem that might not get fixed for a long time...possibly never.

Definite lack of info from Gibbo as well...

I'm swinging more towards an alienware each day.

There's a post on anandtech about it. AMD apparently have a fix "well on it's way"... kinda rather late 6 months after starting selling the damn thing.

I've never been one to join the whole "poor drivers" bandwagon with AMD but this one's painfully obvious.

Is it a software or hardware fix though...
