Out of curiosity, I thought I would do a poll thread for the 2 current PC VR devices that are coming, so pretty simple questions....

  • I have pre-ordered the Rift
  • I will pre-order the Vive
  • One of the options when prices reduces
  • I am not interested in VR
  • Waiting it out for reviews before deciding

Think you'd need a few more options regarding having one or both of Rift & Vive. I've preordered the Rift, and will likely preorder the Vive. Some people are not going to preorder the Rift but will the Vive, and vice versa.

Yer true but I just wanted to keep it simple. If they both have exclusives, then I will be ordering both as well.

Thanks Mods for the poll :)

OP:
Sorry, your option 3 makes no sense. Can you please update.

For me, I'm going to wait to see what happens in the next few months with Vive and how final production versions compare.
Additionally, my belief is that Oculus are testing the market place price elasticity and are presently seeing what they can get away with asking.

I wouldn't be surprised if the price drops by a good 1/3 in the next 6 months.

Option 3 is for those interested but needs to be cheaper. Maybe I should change the term?

Not as many people as I thought thus far who are not interested. A good sign for the future and maybe some of those guys will have a play, like it and change their minds.

"Waiting for the inevitable v2 models in less than 12 months time" would be my option.

I am sure I read that Oculus have a 10 year plan, so I expect and want a few revisions in that time. I just hope more and more people jump on it so the game developers can see a mass market for it and support will flow then.

I don't blame anyone for waiting it out for the Vive but I don't feel it is viable for me with the room I have and even if my Mrs let me have the Spare second bedroom I could see a disaster happening with the cables. I can see it being a real plus though and those who have the room and can somehow keep the cables tidy when gaming will have loads of fun.

Well hopefully this time next month I will be with the retail version of the Oculus Rift (or soon after anyways). Seems like an eternity wait :(

I don't get comparing VR to a 4K monitor or any monitor come to think of it. It isn't a monitor replacement but more of a peripheral. It adds immersion to some games but comparing the two is just silly. Might as well say that my ROG Swift is rubbish as it can't do VR :D

Most people are willing to either upgrade to a better monitor or VR and not both. A billionaire that can afford anything doesnt see the point in any comparison.

Monitors are peripherals.

When using VR you are entirely reliant upon the VR device to render the scene, not your monitor. So in those scenarios IT IS A REPLACEMENT and as such a direct comparison is valid. VR for flight sims that require you to read text/info on HUDs and instruments and right now it is well below readable. This puts anyone with VR at a distinct disadvantage especially in competitive MP.

Yes the experience of VR is astounding and I absolutely will get VR at some future point, but only when it has a resolution that is viable for reading text/huds/instruments etc.

Just enjoy what you use. I am personally looking forward to the CV1 (which will be with me within the week or 3) and I am not out to try and tell people it is the 'must have accessory' but for me it is! I will keep my monitor as well for games that don't use VR, as I have never thought of it as a replacement but if people want to think it is, coolio :)

Hi Greg,

We know you're anxious to receive your Oculus Rift and apologize for not updating your order status sooner. We've been working through an unexpected component shortage, and unfortunately, that issue has impacted the original shipping estimates for some early customers.

We're working hard to get up-to-date ship windows, and you should expect to see your order status updated on oculus.com by Tuesday, April 12. Although many Rifts will be arriving on schedule and in line with original estimates, we'll be covering shipping and handling costs for all orders placed through today.

We're shipping rifts everyday. Don't hesitate to reach out to the Oculus support team if you have additional questions.

The Oculus Team

Meh!!! :(

I got my place and the Halifax declined the payment due to possible fraud. Good to see but man they pick their times to flag things. Emailed Oculus and hopefully they resubmit and I keep my slot.
