Hiya,

I am just about to purchase an Asus Striker II Formula mobo, and obviously need some memory for it.

I am thinking of getting either:
2 x OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2N1066SR2GK)
or
2 x OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR10662GK)

Seen as the mobo is SLI ready, would the SLI-Ready Edition ram give me more performance, or will the slightly better sounding Reaper Edition give me more? (I know that to start off with I won't be using SLI as I only have one graphics card, but the idea is that in the future I will.)

Also, if you think that my memory choice is a little mad, and that i should be getting some different sticks, then please let me know. I am willing to spend upto £~160 on 4GB worth of compatible ram for the ASUS Striker II Formula.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Also how does this sound for my new build?
~ Coolermaster RC-1000
~ ENERMAX GALAXY EGX1000EWL 1000W
~ Asus Striker II Formula nForce 780i
~ Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650
~ 2 x OCZ 2GB PC2-8500 DDR2 Reaper HPC Dual Channel 1066MHz Kit 5-5-5-15
~ 1 x Western Digital Raptor X 150GB 10000RPM SATA 16MB Cache
~ 1 x LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Disc Re-Writer & HD DVD-Rom SATA
~ 1 x BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
~ Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional Soundcard
~ Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit Edition

Hopefully I'll be able to get a better graphics card in the future (maybe geForce 9 series if i can wait that long) as well as another Raptor for RAID 0 once I have some more money!

Your going to only get use out of the sli intructions if your using sli and if your spending that kind of money why not got sli? I would change the gfx for x2 8800gt but if your only planning on buying one card I would change the mobo to a maximus and put in either a value 8800gtx (have one and will clock well) or a value 8800gt 500mb, plenty of reviews copmaring the new 8800gt to gts with gt being the bettter card.

Have fun with the build.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.

I already have the 8800gts in another pc I am using, and quite cannot afford to get a better one with the amount of money I am spening on everything else!
Therefore, as soon as I can afford an 8800GTX (x2!) then Ill do it! ;)

I have been advised to get this RAM instead by the Overclockers team:
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPX10004GK)

Cheers,
Skippo

SLI RAM simply refers to the fact the RAM has undergone testing to be compatible with SLI enabled motherboards. You don't get any performance benefits whether you run SLI on your GFX cards or not.

The specs you list make for an excellent machine, with plenty of upgrades available to you.
