Hello,
I am fairly new to this forum, and thought I would ask something that has had me over for the last week. I appologise if this is supposed to be in the Overclocking part of the forum, but I believe it is more relevent to memory.
I have:
GA-P35C-DS3R F2 Bios
E2140 @ 2960hz (8x370) 1.3975v
2x1GB OCZ PC6400 RAM Platinum
8800 GTS 640
620W Corsair
I have pushed the E2140 to near its limit (FSB wall is 377hz, its stable at 373, just wound it down to 370hz to be safe). This is 12hr orthos stable.
The problem is this. When testing I ran the RAM at 1:1, @ 2.1v and 5,5,5,15 Timings (motherboard default). So the ram is underclocked essentially:
When I change the timings to 4,4,4,12 @ 2.1v orthos fails in 5min.
When I up the DDR voltage to 2.2v windows doesn't boot, it just loops!
When I take out 1 stick, and run 4,4,4,12 orthos is fine @ 2.1v
When I replace this 1 stick with the other @ 4,4,4,12 orthos is fine too!
Moved the ram across into the next slot - same problem.
So it doesn't look like any one of the two sticks of ram that are faulty, it just won't be stable with both sticks in at the tighter timings.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I haven't run the dos memory program yet, but it does look like the RAM is causing the instability, since this is the only thing that changes. Anyone have any thoughts on what to do? Is this a motherboard problem?
Thanks!
