OCZ Vertex 2E and Gigabyte motherboards ... SMART error

the ssd tools is pretty useless by ocz as it kept scanning for drives for more 20 minutes and guess what haven't found my SSD ???? Why can't ocz get a flash in the bios instead for SSD (not inside windows)

Why would you want to go into your motherboard BIOS to flash your SSD BIOS that would make no sense bulldog.

You would want a bootable CD or USB stick to boot from boot device manager on startup.

Windows SSD updates are usually safe though.

My ocz is now upgrade to latest firmware 1.23v from 1.22v but still got boot up as SMART command failed (same as previous 1.22v) no fixed at all.

Shall I just ingorne boot up as SMART command failed on ocz 3.5 F1.23v ?

That is because you need a motherboard BIOS update to resolve that problem. It can not be resolved by updating the firmware of the SSD.

Pretty much. Mine came with 1.1, it's just a case if plugging it in, updating then switching boot drive and installing windows. Might require the odd bios change depending on your current settings.

What I find odd, is my oc switching off. Seems stable *cross fingers* atm.

Hi... As you have a similar mobo to me, do you mind me asking you a couple of questions?

It's just that I've been playing around with switching AHCI on on my current set-up (well a clone of the boot disk so I don't **** things up). To make it easier to update the firmware when I pick up a new SSD.

And was wondering what drivers you have installed for the drive controllers in Device Manager?

It's just that mine seem a little "old".
AHCI controller originally ... 21/06/06 ver 6.1.760.16385
IDE controller originally ... 21/06/06 ver 6.1.760.16385

So downloaded "latest" from Gigabyte site, installed and now they are:
AHCI controller now ... 04/06/09 ver 7.0.0.1013
IDE controller now ... 21/06/06 ver 6.1.760.16385

I'm surprised there isn't a later IDE controller!

Or am I worrying about nothing? (probably just my ignorance!).

PS. Did post a specific new thread about this, but thought I'd ask here as well.

My bios is already up to date latest bios firmware and my SSD firmware. Could be windows itself issues ?

AFAIK it has to be a BIOS update to the motherboard. Have you checked from the link above whether yours has the latest BIOS...? Mine had but there was one from the above link not found on Gigabytes "general" download sites.

I agree, this does look to be the case.

See. http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/f...ave-the-SMART-error-with-FW1.11...look-inside

and one of the sites linked to with updated BIOS's is the site that Vimes mentions. And there does appear to be a new BIOS. Though think you would need to try and check the dates etc. to make sure it is later than the official release.

It is a pity that Gigabyte don't seem to "centralise" these updated Bios updates as people have to hunt them down or assume that there have been no further updates for their boards and thus tolerate issues that they may not need to do.
