Off duty cop powers?

Oh ok. Unfortunately we only have my second hand version of the events but knowing my friend just imagine everything a bit more dramatic than it appears.

Apparently no one has been knocking so I think everything is alright, let's hope. I also hope this incident has taught him to remain calm in these situations from now on.

When someone cuts you up, cutting them up is not the answer :).

Having said that....

"Off-duty Cop" my ass. Just like every other Joe Bloggs then :D.

My Dad had a "Undercover Cop" try and do him some years ago for speed/racing. "Cop" was in a Cossie and Dad was in his T16. Funnily enough Dad just floored it away and never heard anything.

Personally I wouldn't stop for an "Undercover Cop" under any circumstances, even if the car had blue lights etc. Mainly due to that story a few years ago when that G4S bloke had his family held at gunpoint after stopping for a car claiming to be police (flashing blues etc) but actually turned out to be armed thieves.

****ing hell, you could possibly get yourself in some right trouble with that attitude

IIRC unless it's got uniformed officers you are entitled to continue on until you reach a "safe"* place.

From memory it's marked car + uniformed officers, or unmarked car + uniformed officers whose instructions you have to obey, as any idiot can put a couple of blue lights in the car.
I think the law even recognises that it's a legitimate time to use your mobile whilst driving, to confirm a car is in fact a police vehicle.

Remember if they are real officers, just not in uniform they can/will call on uniformed support who will (or should) understand why you'd be wary of pulling over for someone out of uniform.

*somewhere public with other people (petrol station, police station etc).

ahh,but what if they are just blokes dressed to look like police officers like the people who pulled over the head of G4S's wife ?

iirc i'm sure they were wearing high vis coats just like the police do. Not that easy to tell till you've pulled over. By which time they've got a gun pointed at you and your kids and its too late.

My understanding of the RTA is that you must stop for "an officer in uniform". It's the person in the car that counts, not the vehicle itself.

Bah.. just sounds like a regular BMW driver to me... doing the regular thing that BMW drivers do.

See I used to love BMWs but with this reputation I would never drive one now.

I had this coming down from cornwall... I was on R1, just cruising at about 85, this vectra comes up behind me and tail gates me. I was on clear road, on inside lane... I though I'd lose the guy so wound on to 120ish, he vanished.

5 mins up road he's back behind me now flashing his lights, I wound it on again to 150 and backed off again, thought I was about to be some crazy road rage victim.

This time he's up along side me and I spot the copper uniform, he waves me to pull over.

He then lectures me that I must have been doing at least 110 (lol), I argued back I thought I was some road rage victim and wanted to lose him. I glanced back at his car and said you don't have any speed logging equip in there... he said he was 'on way to work'

He left giving me some half baked warning that next time I'd be nicked, highly unlikely

Wow this thread is turning into an encyclopaedia of **** drivers, first the op's mate and now flukester.

not really, I thought he was trying to run me off road. he was about 3 metres from back of R1 at 85mph... it scared me silly so I did all I could think of at time, and that was move away from him.

on a bike at 85mph, it takes about 5 secs with throttle pinned to remove him from anywhere near me... so thats what I did

he provoked that reaction from me.. self preservation kicked in

I was in the car with a mate at a roundabout, a silver bmw stuck its indicator on to turn off so my mate started to pull out and all of a sudden the bmw carries on going around and off on the next exit. In the short space of time my mate stamped on the break, hit the horn and gave the usual finger one tends to give at times like these.

Next thing we see is the BMW start to flash blue and begin to turn around at the next round about, my mate floored it in the other direction at a ridiculous speed and said "I haven't got any insurance". At which point I thought to myself "what a **** and is there anything the police can arrest me for?". Nothing happened though, they didn't manage to catch up to us or weren't ever going after us but haven't got in the car with my mate since.

Sounds like a paranoid fantasy to me, I just find it unbelievable that someone would find 150mph on public roads acceptable, in any situation. If you genuinely thought he was trying to ram you off the road (lol) you should have just pulled over. I'd suggest some advanced driving lessons, you obviously don't know how to deal with difficult situations safely - were not living in Ronin either

I cant remember the last time I did that speed.... but this was 10 years back.

It takes a r1 about 5-6 secs to get from 85 to 150, it served the purpose and got a fool off my rear end who I thought at time was trying to kill me

You do not pull over for anyone, ever heard of car / bike jacking, it's quite common... how would have you dealt with it ?

btw, what speed is acceptable on the road ?, hypocrit much ? (and dont lie here)

Who cares how long it takes to get there, that was a completely retarded way to deal with the situation. Slow down or just keep going, people don't get rammed off the road... It just doesn't happen.

I don't ride but have been on the back of a bike and you do feel very vulnerable. Some one 5 meters or so from your backend at 85mph will not feel right at all! I'd of done the same tbh, Twist the throttle on a R1 and you are 120mph+ in no time at all. I never pull over for anyone unless I can see it's a police officer.

don't be daft man, at 85 I'm not going to slow down and act as a barrier to a tail gating vectra... it's just pure fantasy.

in a car you are protected, I'm not going to use a 180kg bike as a barrier to slow down a 1.5ton car, life is too precious

how could I slow down, I was in the slow lane.... jamming on anchors could have resulted in me being mashed

you would have to be retarded not to understand the situation tbh
