1030pm I over-took a normally looking Saxo (not VTR/VTS) doing 30mph in a 40mph zone at around 45mph going up a steep hill.
At the top of the hill 100 yards later I noticed the car catching me up flashing his lights and getting very close to my rear. As I lived just down the road and didnt want some weirdo knowing where I lived, I pulled over and got out of my car (yes I can handle myself in most situations). The other person did the same in his Saxo and asked if I would like to take this further down my local police station.
I asked him what he was talking about, he then went on to tell me he was a off duty police officer and produced what looked like a L.A fitness memebership card with his name and Nottinghamshire Police written on it with his number. He told me I shouldnt have been speeding nor overtaking him.
I told him it was perfectly safe to do so and I wasnt speeding, and laughed at the fact he was making himself out to be an off duty copper (he looked about 19/20 and he didnt need to shave).
At this point he got mardy and threaten me with arrest. I told him he was quite welcome to try and pointed out the fact if he was a police man he should know better than to flash me down!
This went on for another couple of minutes and said he would be round my house tomorrow for a more indepth conversation on the matter (after he looked at my number plate).
WTF?
I'm thinking about making a complaint about this to the police station, what do you think?

He was a nutter. I wouldn't have stopped - even if you "know how to handle yourself", he could have had a knife or worse. Definitely report :).

Did it bother you all that much?

Depending on how arsey I was feeling it might report it. I hope you took his badge number.

I did take his number, but every-ones knows you never beat the law, doubt theres little point, though the immature idiot does need to learn his lesson is this department

Wasn't a special (needs) PC was he? I know of a local scrote who does exactly this kind of thing, he only joined up as a power trip and flashes his badge (not rusty sheriffs one :D ) at drivers to try and intimidate them.

you do get the %age of them that are genuine normal everyday downtoearth guys, the rest the the kids who got bullied at school and are trying to make up for it in later life

the vast majority of coppers are totally unashamed gheys anyway, this was just another of them

No, the vast majority are not. Unfortunately, people only ever talk about the bad ones, so most people are gullible enough to believe they represent the majority.

i doubt it.

on any car board people will post up any time they have a run in with the fuzz. the one time i met a normal one was last year when i got pulled over whilst racing one night, got a stern talking to, we both saw eachother's point and i was let on my way

i let everyone know about that.

i take it youre a copper then or married to one lol

I was pulled over christmas and the police were 100%, friendly, understanding and just all round nice to deal with. I guess it helped that the cop was irish too so we just ended up chatting about ireland while he checked some details.

No Blues = I dont Pull over.

Complain, the guy isnt on duty and he is out of order.

I got pulled last week in Milton Keynes.5 mins from work at 8am. Copper gets out and says "we have followed you at upto 85mph from the centre of MK" Im like i dont think so mate,i dont go through Central MK.

With that another 156 goes charging up the otherside of the dual carriageway. Not another word said and off they went with lights flashing again. :)

Another member here had a similar incident recently, seems it wasn't a police officer at all, and his local police service are apparently on the look out for his car.

Report it.

It doesn't help that some warrant cards are a bit underwhelming: people who expect huge silver badges like US cops have are going to be disappointed. I've not seen a Notts one so I don't know what theirs look like - but as well as "Notts Police" it should have the force logo on it at least.

And as I said on the previous one of these posts, if he ain't in uniform you don't have to stop for him. West is wrong here BTW: the law requires you to stop for an officer in uniform, but says nothing about blue lights, which are not required. However, I (and generally the law) appreciate that in most cases you won't be able to see if they are uniform or not unless they are along side you, are are using blue lights.

But yet again I find myself thinking: we are only hearing one side of this. Of course YOU though the overtake was perfectly legit, but he clearly didn't, whatever he does for a living. It's entirely possible that an onlooker, or even a passenger in your car would have considered it silly. But you simply expect everyone here to believe that you are telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. To quote a well-know TV doctor: "Everybody lies". You may not be of course, but it's worrying that everyone else simply assumes that you aren't. Sorry, but I'm older and more cynical than that. I don't think anyone can realistically comment unless they either saw it, or have heard the view of the guy who pulled you over.

You're from Nottingham ja? This has been happening A LOT recently. It's happened to me and to 2 other I know. There's been a spate of car-jackings happening like this so I'm now refusing to stop for anything other than blues. If he did pull a badge then definitely complain, if they say that the badge number doesnt exist or something along those lines then the chances are it's the same thing they've been trying with everyone else.
