Hi Folks,

We're off for our honeymoon in a few weeks time which includes a week in the fully inclusive resort of Dreams Puerto Vallarta. Anyway never having been to Mexico before I'm not sure if we need to visit the Dr's before to get shots?

Oh any other tips/advice for visiting mexico is appreciated :)

Thanks,
Paul

Also there are several types of malaria tablets. Malerone being the best, with the least side effects and effectiveness against all strains of malaria. It's also very expensive from about £2.20-£4.00 per tablet depending upon where you buy from. Especially considering you have to take it every day you are in a malaria zone and a few days before and after.

pretty sure you need some shots to go there. see your gp as you will need to buy malaria tablets at teh very least

thats terrible advice, there are only some very tiny pockets of Mexico where Malaria tablets are recomended and they are not exactly toursit hotspots. I really wish people on here would think before offering advice.

Anyway here is some decent web advice.

Now you need to make an appointment with your doctor (or practice nurse at some surgeries) who will have a record of all your previous jabs and will be able to give them to you as required.

I've been to Mexico a couple of times and never got any shots but that doesn't mean it's right! It's a wonderful country, enjoy it. Try to see as much as you can, there is so much variety, don't just stay in your resort.

We didn't have any shots/take any tablets, as long as you are staying in a populated area and not straying off the track you don't need any.

That's what both my insurance company and doctor told me when I went back in July. :)

They have recently legalized cannabis, cocaine, lsd, heroin and methamphetamine! Albeit only in small quantities ^^

Have fun!

I never had any "shots" when I went there (been there a couple of times) - I mainly was in the harbour areas, however I did venture around for a couple of days in between work. I suppose it would depend on if you have any underlying conditions as well I guess.
