***Offical Game of Year Contender Dragons Dogma***

each boss monster has weak points e.g. cyclops stick em in the eye :D so you can either climb up him or try and arrow him to the eye. Some monsters if you dont hit them in their weak points hardly take any damage at all (golems!)

i worked the cyclops out as you say. im currently doing the well in the first village and really struggling to kill the reptilian monsters. do i need to grind the game a bit to be able to take certain monster on or do i just suck?

im playing as a stryder.

Most enemies have a weak point or elemental vulnerability that you should exploit for an easier time of it, especially at the start of the game.

The Saurians in your example are nails in a head on attack, run behind and hack off their tail. After that they are easy.

They are also vulnerable to being frozen (which subsequently makes chopping the tail off much easier) and also as they are water creatures get your Mage to hit them with lightning when they are in the water.

They learn to do things as you do. Kill a creature, the pawn learns how to do it, take some healing, your pawn learns that too. Until you train them they are like headless chickens. Don't forget to give them specific instructions by using the knowledge chair, you can find this at the pawn guild in Gran Soren or most places with a Rift Stone.

If you are struggling with your pawns behaviour, you can buy a potion which sets it to what you want.

After the story has advanced and you have arrived in Gran Soren for the first time, head back to the Encampment. An old guy will be standing near the rift stone, he sells the potions for 250 RC each.

Have spent far too much time running away from things whilst exploring in this game so far. Level 24 and have only just finished the first everfall mission for the pawn guild :)

one thing i dont like about hiring pawns is it doesnt say whether they are a NG+ pawn (ie a pawn which has already completed the game and therefore has weapons and gear that you get when you complete game) Bit spoilerific kinda. They were only level 42 as well. Hrmm im lvl 39 and am only just past the griffon quest but ive been exploring as well. Its free roam so thats the whole point to me :)

Thought the griffon quest was quite epic :D The lightning effects were utterly awesome i have to say!

Was quite lucky as well because i lost my sorceror/mage pawn before the fight but that sorceror dude you help by finding the grimoire turns up to save the day BUT only if you did help him ofc

I gave him a forgery. :D

Finished first play through last night and started my second as a mage.

I must say i enjoyed the demo of this game and want to pick it up in the next day or so.Only trouble is deciding which version to get.Really want to get it on 360 so i can install it to the hdd but do i need a Gold Live subscription to be able to borrow other peoples pawns or is a Silver sub ok?

Im on silver and had no problem doing so :)

Game is great fun, I can totally get where the issues around fast travel being too restrictive come from but there's enough short-cuts to not make it a huge issue. It certainly lacks the polish of some larger RPG's but damn, those enemies sure are fun!

Only real gripe is the pawn AI, try as I might to retrain him or teach him my main pawn is a terrible tank and most striders I recruit seem loathe to actually climb an enemy. Doesn't detract too much though, still loving it!

The love for this game seems to have disappeared. Anyone still playing it? I'm on my 3rd play through. This time as a Magic Archer.

Trying to concentrate on quests I've not done before.

Hi Rob, I'm giving it a break for a bit just to wait and see if an expansion or significant DLC pack is released. The game has loads of potential, I just hope Capcom deliver better DLC than whats on offer at the mo.

Love the game though! :)

Sequel Confirmed!!! :D

"Thanks to healthy sales, Capcom has announced its hardcore RPG Dragon's Dogma will be developed into a series.

Capcom revealed in a statement that the title is its 55th to reach 1 million copies shipped, having set a first-week sales record in Japan for a new franchise.

As a result, Capcom has enough faith in the title to develop new games in the Dragon's Dogma series.

The PS3 version of 'Dogma sold over 300,000 units in its Japanese debut week alone.

Read our Dragon's Dogma review for more info on the Capcom RPG."

Brilliant news, they have a good base game here, I would love to see the sequel flesh it out a bit more, more varied environments etc.

Oh, and co-op would be superb!

Quick question, so I have started as a fighter to gain strength and a few of the passives skill things with the idea to later move to strider/ranger since bows depend on strength, does this sound like a smart idea or would I be better off going towards Assassin?

I did the same thing (except I maxed strider/ranger first), maxed Warrior and Fighter to get the strength increase passives after - it's definitely worth doing, haven't tried going assassin yet though as there weren't any tempting passives.

Nearing the end of first playthrough. Played as fighter/mystic knight

2nd playthrough ill max out mage/sorceror and strider/assassin

Really good game that has potential to be epic. Hopefully the weaknesses will be ironed out in the sequel :)

Major thing is co-op possibly. More depth and variety in monsters and quests. Tighter and more developed storyline.

Different environments and weather.

And up the difficulty and monster count at night most definitely. I want my fighter to be fighting a HORDE of goblins and hobgoblins not 6 !!!

Not sure whether to have scaled enemies at some point or not. Game is too easy without it.

I agree with those points Surfer, if they can keep the difficulty up throughout the game it would be a big plus.

I think around level 25 is great, you are quite powerful and have a great repertoire of moves, but can still feel vulnerable when outnumbered or facing a boss.

Scaling could work, problem is that this method of difficulty control is very rarely done well.

Hordes would be brilliant, there are some moments in the game when you are fighting hobgoblins that are epic.

My favourite experience was stumbling into the drake for the first time, close to death, pawns dead, running to the north west to the fortress with the hobgoblin horns going and fighting my way through them. Brilliant!

Anyway, I am really pleased that a sequel is in the works, they can concentrate on improvements rather than creating absolutely everything from scratch.
