Not sure I can add to what’s been said in the comments, but it might appear that these brave officers are not getting the support they should be able to reply upon.
It’ll be interesting to see whether the officer in the Chris Kaba shooting is convicted next month, and also the fate of the officers involved in the Manchester Airport incident.

I don't really agree with Tasers, they should be a last resort when the officer is in danger.

I've seen videos where they have been used just because someone isn't cooperating and the police just can't be bothered to resolve the situation properly, or when someone is running away.
according to this BBC article they are meant to be used when someone is in danger, the only danger if a suspect is running away from a non violent crime is that the police might have to get some exercise

It's almost like a time saving device.

I guess thats around the time when they were introduced.
The police are trained to think about risk factors. These include head injuries if someone falls, avoiding "sensitive areas," and vulnerable people and children.
yet if you google there are news articles about them being used on Dementia sufferers, One legged wheel chair bound people, and others above retirement age.
the one legged guy did have a knife however, but in a wheel chair surely you could just block him in or whatever?

The dementia suffer could only walk with a frame, so could easily have been out walked.

Wasn't there a guy who got shot in his private parts too?

Remember when the police disarmed some guy wielding a machete, and they did it only with the use of riot shields.
it made the news worldwide because in USA etc they would have just shot him.

So would we these days straight in with the taser, it's like the ability for officers to reason with people, show a bit of compassion and understanding disappeared, as they no longer need to.

Compassion to someone welding a machete.

Broken Britain in a nutshell. Give your head the wobble it truly needs.

We have no space in the prisons anyway, don't even lock up nonces, just get rid of the police entirely and then we can all share the nation in compassionate bliss. It'll be fine because ACAB am I right?

Why don't you join the police and dish out your own brand of justice, see how far you get.

A misuse of work tools can have serious consequences. The police should be held accountable as in any profession.

**** being a cop nowadays. Yelled at, threatened, spat on, the closest backup is now twice as far away as it was a decade ago, if it turns up at all, bumping in to the very people you arrest a fortnight after you arrest them, and worst of all, being blamed by Johnny Public for the failures of the government. And for £lol a month. Surprised we have any cops left at all tbh.

I mean this in the most sincere way I possibly can - **** being a cop.

Problem is the police don't always have all the information on hand in an incident - for all they might know he could still be perfectly capable of getting out the wheelchair and using the knife, etc.

And then thrown under the bus by your superiors.

Friend of a friend went from being a firearms officer to a train driver for exactly these reasons.

Iirc he makes more money as well.

This is classic Britain these days - its very easy - dont want taser'd do as you're told. If the police say stop / drop the knife / calm down or whatever it may be - just do it. Far too often we see people trying to place the police in the wrong. I've never seen or heard of anyone being tasered who did as they were asked.

same, they should go straight to guns
or just be properly trained in the first place and not panic use a taser.

I only mentioned the machete guy because it showed how respected our forces once were around the world, back when they could deal with a threat without needing to shoot a guy.
Now they are just like American police

Not only these points but when the suspect is 'handy' the taser is extremely unreliable from incidents I've come across.

I don't want labour a point or get this thread closed, but if the officers in the airport incident get charged and their attackers get off scot free, then what kind of message does that send to serving police officers, let alone anyone thinking of joining the force?

I'm hoping the reason they haven't been charged is because of the CPS being underfunded (which it is) and taking a long time to get around to it. I also would hate to see the officers in this incident be charged, given what they had to endure

I agree with Arknor.

Police shouldn't use Taser.

It should be the standard issue Glock 17.

You get told twice then you don't get told again.

Our law enforcement service is too soft, too full of weak, namby pampy leaders, hiring weak namby pamby officers thinking they're there to play mediator/social worker, constantly capitulating to ethnic groups because they might get called a hurty word if they actually uphold the law with them

Our police force used to be the envy of the world and now it's the laughing stock
