Interesting quali that. Most of the driver's seemed to struggle with any sort of consistency.
Listening to Russell (and well, its obvious from the season) that the tyres on these cars are so fragile and the window so small that seemingly the track bedding in, or getting 4deg cooler has an absolutely massive effect on cars, all in different ways. Not sure I like the lottery aspect that it seems to bring to quali - and races personally.
Amazing from Ric. Possibly one of the worst things to happen for Perez!
In answer to the usual rude messages (now deleted thanks mods), when was the last time an AT was >P5 in quali? Or when was the last time an AT qualified above Perez? To be fair that must have happened before this season given his recent performances. Highly unusual that DR can come back from pootling around no higher than P13, to suddenly P4. Mind you, exactly what I was saying above there seems to be a definite lottery aspect to quali in particular this year.

If DR beats Perez in his home race that's gonna be.. ouch.

So the stewards didn't have the cojones to do anything about the impeding. I guess it will have to be an F1 management / FIA thing to introduce a rule change. Very disappointing.

To be fair since they didn’t punish Verstappen the first time they shouldn’t very well go back on that and punish the second time. So really they should have had the balls to punish him properly the first time. But yes I expect a rule change is imminent.

I'm shocked. Especially after last time.

Championship is wrapped up too.
It would have been easy to give that penalty. And would have made a better race too.

Bizarre. But f1 rules have always been.. Flexible.

But last time didn't they say they were wrong to do it?

Could just say if there are no other cars before the end of the pit lane you must be going at least 10mph

The problem with these rules is that they're actually doing it for a reasonably sensible reason that makes other things better. They're trying to create space between themselves and the car in-front allowing them to control their outlap and lap pace. The reason they've started mucking around in the pits is because the chaos of them trying to do it on track has been clamped down on with minimum lap times (even if the enforcement of that has been laughable). Stop them leaving the pits in a staged fashion and they'll go back to squabbling on their out laps creating a greater risk of incident, blocking of cars on fast laps, and so on.

Ferarri have had pole or near multiple times. Its just we all forgot them because they then go backwards in the race.

Got to give it to DR as the driver of the day though.

Extremely unlikely to be honest. Unless there is carnage at turn 1 up front which he avoids.
I'd say there's quite the risk of an incident at T1, mainly because the Ferraris are going to be doing something overly complicated to try and keep Max at bay.. But they'll probably mess it up and make it easy for him somehow :p I'd like to see Leclerc do to Max what he did to him at COTA and see how well that goes down.

I just watched the start of 2022 and Russell (P3) was all over the back of Hamilton (P2) for the first half of the lap. He might have been on different tyres or something, dunno.

EDIT: 2021 Verstappen in P3 got a nice slipstream and got past Bottas and Hamilton around the outside to lead the first lap. So Leclerc and Sainz do need to be aggressive and push him wide at T1 otherwise he'll be round.
