Not sure this is totally true. My best 3930K does 135.2 blk stable or over 108 PCI EX frequency stable. The others I have do at least 131 which is 105.

Even with 4 GPU they are doing 131.
 
have the 310.xx drivers made overclocking worse on 680s or am I just being dumb?

I cant seem to reach my air clocks even though I'm on water and 40-60 degrees cooler on load. Same volts etc.

Cards have been running at stock mostly..

The second card keeps dropping to sub ghz core, causing a stutter, before ramping back up to my boost 0_o. When this happens at an intense part 3dmark/heaven will crash the driver/hardlock pc.
 
Yours is a lightning too iirc? Mine are both early version with the original bios on them. They were always average clockers (1267mhz core max) without extra volts. On the standard bios they have never clocked very well at all tbh.

The ln2 bios is better but I can't bench SLI very well atm :/.

On sunday I will disable the 2nd card's pci-e lane (maximus iv ex-z - that is a bloody amazing feature) and see how one card fares I guess.

i meant if your on the edge with cpu voltage the thing that tends to fail first is the gpu drivers/gpu card

havnt you had that happen? seemslike you can be stable in cpu stress testing but it still requires a bump in cpu voltage to get the pcie/gpu stable?

Is the bclk entirely down to how good the CPU is, or does the mobo contribute as well.

On the newer drivers, I had the same problem as you (with not reaching air clocks). I went back to trusty ol 306.23 and still the same. I wiped the drivers totaly and reinstalled them and could clock more than air.

Mine don't ramp down though, so maybe another issue?

I've been playing around with my ram, its holding my physics score back. I can't improve it by much unless i get better ram but ive just improved my overall score/physics score slightly so will be submitting a new result shortly.
