*** Official Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Thread ***

Who said anything about running and gunning? I came to BC2 specifically because I was bored of games like MW2 which are esentially just deathmatches. I am the kind of player who prefers to skulk around, using cover and not venturing into the open. My favourite game is Red Orchestra on the PC, a game which is geared towards exactly this sort of realism (a game which is fantastic, incidentally, partly because snipers are rare). Even so, sometimes it's neccessary to expose yourself in order to reach the objective, or cross a street, or whatever.

The problem is, it doesn't help. What you're saying would be applicable if there were a reasonable number of snipers in the game. Then yes, running into the open would be a bad idea, and I wouldn't be so frustrated about being shot down. But there's so many snipers it just doesnt seem to matter.

I would love to see sniper numbers limited. Then perhaps more players would choose to use assault classes and we could see more big firefights and really involving battles that this game is designed for.

I think I saw someone mention earlier that sniping is less of a problem when not playing hardcore (is this true?), and if Im honest, Ive not tried normal mode yet. But I much prefer hardcore for the more realistic feeling with no crosshairs etc, and bullets which actually do damage, so Im loathe to go and try it.

Yeah its head shots only for one hit kills on normal. Anywhere else on the body and you get hit and can relocate.

Theres nothing about battlefield in that or am I missing something? Seems to be about some gimpy multiplayer game where the best scores come from those you can find the exploits.

lol wrong thread.

Looking forward to grabbing the BC1 maps. Dont mind paying at all. Had loads of hours on this

Why is everybody praising DICE for releasing old maps like that's some massive accomplishment on their part. BC1 does NOT equal NEW content. The BC1 maps could have been in the game from day 1, it's no big challenge converting already made Frostbite maps.

I didnt praise DICE. I don't feel that passionate about it. But if you're asking me why others are praising DICE I don't know and I don't care. :)

Edit: I havent played the BC1 maps and I'm looking forward to some games on maps that are new to me.

Tried liking BFBC2...I think it's a dire game.

For starters the sensitivity is odd...when walking around it feels laborious and slow whereas when you look down the sight of the gun it becomes MEGA sensitive and because its so slow when not looking down the sight you really can't adjust it.

The online play seems meh...the graphics are significantly worse in multiplayer. The single player seems like your standard FPS single player campaign, nothing to add to the genre.

I really like BC2 but totally agree about the sensitivity. The ratio between hip and ADS is messed up and the major thing I hate. 1943 was incredibly fast at the hip and slow and steady down the sight, basically perfect. This game is the opposite. And from what I hear they made it even worse for Vietnam.

Part of the problem is they put a huge acceleration curve on the hip sens. So it takes about 180 before coming up to full speed which is pointless. An option to turn that off would be awesome.

Seems like Dice just like to change it for everyone of their games as they clearly dont understand good stick handling.

Yeah I just bought a copy of this again. COD BO is great when your on your own but having a couple of mates on the battle field is awesome.

Really looking forward to playing this game again.

Well, played some vietnam last night, the first thing I noticed was the look sensitivity was much higher... Nothing had changed in the settings, was very odd.

It feels just like the arcade bf that came out (1943?) before BC2... not a full game, not sure, only spent 30 mins on it though. Struggled to get any kills in simply due to not knowing the maps.

I heard its the ADS sens changed in relation to the hip sens. So its faster ADS.

I understand (sort of) that Dice want to change the stick handling for every single one of their games, but they really need to stick with something now. especially because people will be going between these 2 games.....I certainly will want to....its not a problem really but its not ideal.

The player base must still be pretty large though. Must be an EA server problem. I was having the 7v7 problem just a couple of months after launch.

been playing this on ps3 since it came out, dont think i have even pressed eject since i like it so much.

Just started playing Squad deathmatch, really good if you fancy a slower paced game. Great 'extra' to what is already a good game, try it, if you have not yet.

Havent even tried that...will soon. Hopefully my copy arrives today, already bought vietnam :)

Anyone having problems finding games I found clearing the cache sorts it instantly.

But I'm disappointed to see such active forum communities yet I'm getting into 2v2 games and empty servers. Since I bought both games 7v7 seems common. Nothing to do with the player count clearly a problem with match making.

I did see a EA twitter 48 hours ago saying they are "fixing" the match making right now. I hope they do. Although I'm still enjoying my 7v7 games.

I spoke to people in the Studio today and we are making this a priority. We're looking into what is making the players connect to empty servers or half empty servers.

One thing we have noticed is when peak hours are over or close to over, players shut down their Xboxes and leave rooms. The servers then matchmake people onto those servers where players have already left.
This might not be a true solution for the problem but at least this is all I have for an update at the moment.

We're tracking these issues and I'm sending forum posts off to the devs just to show how serious the situation is for you players.

We're very sorry for the inconvenience and the team is working hard to solve these problems.

The process of investigating matchmaking has taken some days. We have also managed to locate and identify what was the cause and root of this issue and therefore we have decided to restart the PS3 and the Xbox 360 backends as soon as possible.

The restart which will likely happen within the next hour. (Normally we would schedule restarts for the "low peak" around 7AM GMT, but this is too serious.)

In addition to this we are currently implementing early-warning systems for related problems in case they happen in the future.

My take on it is that for clan only matches the balance is fine. But for public matches that will have groups of people going on and dominating the balance isnt fine.

And not even Dice can argue this point because whats happens in a lot of games is the map is capped then spawn trapping leads to an empty server and no game. For that reason alone its faulty for public play.

You cant rely on the community to be nice about spawn trapping its not going to happen, therefor it needs to be re-balanced by Dice at least for BF3. Clearly not going to happen for BC2.

They need to do away with this 3 flags in a row crap as well. Makes the battlefield linear and is part of the problem.

Yeah now that you mention that, it definitely is something that needs to be changed. BF2 had cap points all over the map, in strategic but non-linear locations. They need to get back to that formula.

I think they wanted to create a different feel from other BF games but also concentrate the action as they were hoping to snag a lot of COD/New players. It was fine for everyone in the short term but as the new players filtered on to different games the core community were left long term with with introductory maps that dont really stand up very well to long term abuse as is the case with BF players.

As always I'm sure Dice will do a huge overhaul again for BF3.

Dont get me wrong though, BC2 is my most loved XBOX game. What I'd like for BF3 would be minimum of 4 cap points dynamically positioned on open large circular maps.
