***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Just purchased this for £14.99 on Steam.

Last one I played was 2011 I think. I normally start with Liverpool as that's who I support, but may go for a local team. Choices are:
Norwich
Ipswich
Colchester
Peterborough

Or go for a bottom league team?

I would start right at the bottom, it's a lot of fun trying to work your way up. Peteborough are good fun too (my home city).

I have no idea what I'm doing with the managerial stuff but I'm having fun :p

Decided to stay loyal and start at my local club Boston United  Surprised they had them in the game!

Got a stupid amount of yellow cards... Johnson, Enrique, Allen, Gerrard and Countinho (sub). :(

Not far from finishing my second season with Monaco. Promoted in my first pretty easily, especially with the decent budget you get by the rich owners.

Second season another good budget and relied on free transfers and some big name loans (for Monaco anyway).

My team currently:

GK: Enyeama/Olzabal

DL: Carles Planas/Kleber
DC: Wolf/Sergi Gomez
DC: Kagelmacher/Muniesa
DR: Koch

MC/DM: Poli/Tymoshuck/Ndinga

AML: Patricio Rodriguez/Ait Fana
AMC: Afellay (long injury)/Gourcuff (loan)/Falque
AMC: Aimar/Rafinha/Falque
AMR: Barazite/Femenia

ST: Petric/Germain/Ocampos/Di Natale

Got a few out on loan who might end up in the squad.

Looking to replace a few of the players come the summer, hopefully replacing the older players with better versions. I was originally gonna spend decent money on a new striker but Germain has been picking up a few goals so might look at this in the summer. I have agreed to sign Eduardo on a free transfer though.

Going well and should finish top 6-8 ideally!

I'm 2024 now. Lots of regens, some good ones too but I can't afford the best of them. I am one of the 'massive' teams now, the 10th richest in the world. But transfer inflation is a massive problem - is this realistic? Is it a bug? Some players salaries are like £170k per week. I don't know if this is for real, I don't follow the game much. I must admit, it's only what I would consider the best players whose salaries are over inflated but even if I approach a mediocre player they want a ridiculous wage for their ability. Is it just because I've become one of the mega clubs? They think they can ask whatever they want.

I think I'm going to have to invest in the future of the club and buy some young guns. I think it's ridiculous to spend £60 million on a single player when I could buy half a dozen for the same amount. It will just take my club a serious amount of time to develop them :(

The wage inflation is real, once you are in the premier league for a while it can get monstrously out of hand with silly wages.

The transfer fee thing also reflects the state of modern football but is more like a bug that some players get an over inflated sense of worth so the "priced me out of a move" complaint isn't registered with foreign teams as much, hence why you end up having to pay 60m for someone...

Does anyone know how to deal with wingers? i get cut apart by players like bale, zuniga etc my FBs just fall back and let them either cut in or get skinned and a deadly cross is delivered. Strange enough my wingers never beat there defender and when cutting inside always lose the ball.... really beginning to hate this game.

Any suggestions for what leagues to switch on now that I'm able to scout Europe? Where might I find some unknown, cheap gems, plying their trade in some 3rd division nobodies heard of? :D

Boston? May as well quit while you're ahead :D

Oh god what have I done :p

They are as terrible as ever! Tbh 4 points in 4 games is probably better than they have been doing in the real world though :D

Edit: Also I have no clue what to do on the transfer side of things, all my players are being stolen and my board will give me £0 for transfers :(

Request a parent team and rely on free transfers and loans. You'll get 17-19yo's from higher clubs who'll be on free loan deals and be your best players.

Check your team tactics - make sure you are standing off and not pressing, which is more aggressive. I've been in the same situation where I had 7 yellows in one game as a result of bad tackles.

Where do I find these free players?

There's a number of ways. If you get a parent club of some stature they will probably send you a player or two who will surprise you. I've been in situations where my best player was a loaner from my parent.

Another way is to check out the free transfers or transfers set to expire in 6 months. I've poached a player now worth £25 million that way ;)

This game is too easy... first month and I get manager of the month:

beat JJK 5-0 in the second leg (Euro)
beat Swansea 2-0 (EPL)
beat Servette 3-0 (Euro)
beat Arsenal 2-0 (EPL)
beat Servette 1-0 in the second leg (Euro)
beat Aston Villa 1-0 (EPL)

I'll go on a losing streak now :)

Weirdly Joe Allen probably pips Saurez at being the best player so far, 3 goals in 7 games and rating of 7.61.

Cheers i'll try doing one of those!

Also is it normal for windows to keep telling me that the game stopped responding after I quit?

I get that as well, no idea why, doesn't seem to affect anything. Have a look at some of the older free agents too, they won't have much of a future but can help no end if you get them on 1year contract. Got this 34yo striker in league 1 that my backroom keep telling me is too old constantly putting them away 11 in 14 so far :)

This game is too easy... first month and I get manager of the month:.

hehe.. When you find that flow in your player skills and tactics it does become more consistent but it's never easy. I've won the Premier league twice in a row - and am in first place now, with a 3 point lead. But I've lost all the cups along the way, and I generally do not fair well in the Champions League either. It's a bit strange really.
