***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Think I'm going to have to restart my save.
My board just seems bugged as hell, just put me down from 60k wage budget to 36k.
Still in League 1.

Not sure whether or not to stick with Havant in my next save like.
Shame really as I've got about 200 hours in, but everything's going all over the place.

But I've learnt a lot since, so I might be able to do a lot better this time around.
Not sure if I should start unemployed or not.

Maybe I've got an attachment to Havant because they're the first team I used :p.

I have no idea what formations to use or what to do with anyone, but I'll just experiment and hopefully something might work :D

Found out the problem with my game and tactics, the match engine sucks. Just using commentary they are winning and scoring loads! just been chelsea 3-0 away then liverpool 3-1 at home and looking at the stats after the games they played exactly how i organised them but in the ME they have no idea whats going on and run around like headless chickens.

Yeah i'm sticking to 4-4-2 at the moment, experimenting a bit, which is working, just beat some poor team 6-1 :p

I'm playing all my games in ME and so far there has been a tonne of goals!

Finding it tough in the Championship.

My team tore through League 1 with 104 points and scored something like 114 goals. But I couldn't really improve it through lack of funds. So far, 6 games in. W2 D0 L4 :/

Going to be a difficult season I think.

I think the fans are somewhat unrealistic in the game - my fans are "very concerned" about a 1-1 draw with Man Utd at Old Trafford - I'm OGC Nice and have a far lower reputation than them! A draw is a good result :p

Just focus on survival in your first season then play-offs/autopromo in the second, same kinda goes in the prem to, first season is survival second it tophalf/europe.

My expectations this year are to avoid relegation. The way things are going, I'd be happy with that :)

But will need more than 6 points every 6 games to do it I think.

OK, so I couldn't resist the 15 squid offer on steam and bit the bullet. I have now started out my solo mission of starting unemployed.

Got my first job in Portugal with second League outfit Santa Clara. No funds to spend and I've signed six players, putting me about 1200 squid over budget - stepping stone 'ere I guess. Not so decent start to the season sitting 17th with 8 games in but that might all change when my team gels.

Edit: Read the manual - all good in the hood.

Will post any good highlights on to the youtube channel. God, I am sad.

Anyone got any lower league gems to share playing as Bishop's Stortford in Blue Square North i fancy a big challenge managed to come mid table first season.

So hard to keep players with a zero budget its fun though i am enjoying the challenge.

Dale Gomez (I something like that) a 24 year old Argentinian striker who's quick, good finishing and good passing, terrible composure though so never let him take penalties.

Bishop's Stortford have one excellent CB and keeper (on loan) at the start so you are sort of given a good start for the rest of the game :)

Pre update I got Mathew Patterson in for 5k after a good loan spell from Burton, not sure if he'll come back again though but he's L2 quality really.

Alex Pursehouse has been my best free agent signing, hes 20yr old RB with average of 7.22 over 44games so far in L1. Not sure if he'll play in BSP but definately worth checking out

  • Dwayne Samuels was a beast on the Right Wing for me up until League 2.
  • Ryan Brunt has proven to be an amzing Striker. Think I got him in BSP, he only played a few games. He played about 30 in League 2 and scored 15. First full season he scored 44 goals in league 1. Now currently top scorer in the Championship (even if we are struggling). You might be able to get him to the BSN/BSS he will only be 19/20.
  • Shane Killock was a decent for me at that level CB, good enough up to league 2.
  • Try scouting Ireland, I found loads of great players there for peanuts. Craig Kiely(sp?) was another young CB, got amazigng ratings in games and chipped in with about 7/8 goals a season!!!
  • Someone Tyrrell (sp?) also an excellent CB from Ireland and later became club captain.
  • Other gems if you are lucky enough to get them on a free are Anthony Malbon and Christopher Johns from the BSP, but both their clubs were asking silly money. They are playing well below their ability level. Malbon I got on a free once I made League 1 and he chipped in with 20 goals and and 10 assists. He and Ryan Brunt were a lethal combo. Sadly, I've still not managed to get Johns.

That's all I can remember from memory :)

Almost every game for me is a fix, say like now im playing villa who are 1 point behind me, i play it i thrash them with everything but goals and i constantly lose 1-0 with them only have 1 or 2 shots on target out of 5 and im having 18 with 11 on target.... played the game 7 times this morning lost everyone in the exact same circumstance. Owning, concede one goal from counte/set peice and lose.

There does appear to be some kind of pattern to winning and losing - if you are set to lose then it doesn't really seem to matter what you do, you will tend to lose the same way. I've also seen this type of thing with injuries. I don't know how it can be a random 'in game' event as the same player got injured 5 times in a row in the same match (using save and reload to test). These things seem to be set prior to the match itself but that is just my theory of course. Also, tactics don't appear to make a huge difference at this point - I changed my formation dramatically in that game and still lost every match whether i was defending, containing or attacking.

I have a question, sell on clauses - how do they work? I sell a player say, and specify a clause, say 10% of the sale transfer fee if they resell. At some point, which seems random almost, I am told I can sell the clause. Which I tend to do, because I see the player has lost value rather than gained value. So it makes sense to sell. But I don't understand these clauses.

Yeah theres definately something different about it compared to FM12. I replayed 3 matches with different line ups and got the exact same results. Perhaps it's coincidence, but certainly feels like something else is having a big say in my form, no doubt more to do with morale, team talks etc.

Just played the game again for the 11th time, ive changed my tactics about 4 times quite dramaticly all with the same outcome, me having everything and still losing by 1 goal be it 3-2 or 1-0. Doesnt matter what i change its always the same.
Just played the 12th time and got a 1-1 all the same apart from villa having bent injured lol.

My shots vary, odd one from outside area but most are wingers cutting into area and hitting post, abel hernandez and jay rodriguez one on one with keeper and having it saved or hitting the upright/bar, 6 clear cut chances in that last game. Had 2 headers from my CB blocked on the line, 28 shots 14 on target and only 1 goal which was a penalty and then straight after i concede from a poor kick from my goalie for bent to pass in the back of the net but getting injured by my goalie HA! Its strange, i cant watch highlights because im garanteed to lose 90% of the time, i watch the commentary and im winning 80%+ but i come across games where it doesnt matter what i do its preprogramed to give me a hard time. I used to think the game was random but even my brother has noticed it seems to be set in stone at some points to mould the table or result. We both miss 2011 lol 2012 was ok but to many exploits.
