official Gears Of War discussion thread

Yup completed this recently..........impressions.........

Good graphics, not as jaw dropping as the videos we've seen but the engine is certianly up to it as the cut scenes are very very nice.

The control system is excellent, its easy to pick up and play but its also a system which you can master. Its amazing how much you improve at the game without really noticing, you will be perfect reloading every time and getting headshots all over the place by the end. Very epic action sequences.

Wish there was more guns, but the choice is there its just annoying that you pretty much use the same gun all the way through only pulling out bigger ones when Boomers etc. turn up.

Really liked the 'set piece' kinda moments, the driving section/berserker moments etc.

Errrrrrrrrrm, lacking a bit in story, the chatter between your teammates creates a good enough atmosphere to make you want to play through the whole game though.
Wish the single player was longer, think it took me about 9 hours on the middle setting :(.

But yeah, excellent game wish to god xbox live worked on this crap **** uni internet because i bet the multiplayer is absolutely top notch.

Hi,

Mine arrived today. Only played 30 minutes so far. But initial impressions are its ok. The graphics arent quite as good as i expected in game but then im only at the very beginning of the game lol ...are the cut scenes really rendered on the fly by the game engine? Im not convinced...if you look at the credits it says cinematic graphics by some 3rd party company?...if they are in game so to speak they are without doubt the best game graphics i have ever seen.

Took me about 10 minutes to really get to grips with the controls/mechanincs of the cover and fire gameplay but once that was sorted it plays pretty good :) I have only tried single player so cant comment on multiplayer yet. Actually did my first curb stomp in a single player game by accident lol ..very cool :)

Off back to play,
Hugest

Not convinced...sigh yes they are. They are the same as in game graphics - which do look awesome.

I am currently working on the 2nd act.

I see this game as being fairly repetitive, from the beginning to now i havent really seen anything that NEW, its the same firefights and the same "puzzles" that are extremely basic.

Having said that, for a console game which is basically designed for little kids its decent and provides enough entertainment, if a little stale at times.

Its probably one of the best 360 games, though that not a massive achievment considering the quality has been fairly bad.

It's an 18 rated game, there shouldn't be any little kids playing it, nor was it designed for them.

What?

Plenty of kids will be playing this game because how many shops and how many parents care about the ratings on the back of the games.........

Skill level in GoW is fairly low..... the "puzzles" take about 5 seconds to work out and theres nothing there remotely challenging for someon with half a brain. "hmm theres fire blocking my path.... thank god i found the valve DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME to turn the water on and put the fire out" LOL!

Not to mention the "focus" button that focuses your screen on things of importance, it practically plays the game for you and POINTS OUT things you should be finding yourself sometimes!

The game saves checkpoints pretty much every minute practically so you never have to revisit the same stuff too much.

Its a great game by 360 standards but its not even 1/5th of that Half Life is..... which dissapoints me greatly.

Morning people,

was thinking about last night when I read fieldy's comment on the LE not allowed to be sold, so I googled a bit and came accross this article : Reservoir dogs called back in UK

Apparently, the BBFC logo needs to be present on both the discs and box. In the case of GoW, the discs have them since the regular editions have been shipped to some people already..

EDIT : Actually on second thought, everywhere you see a pic of the box, it's got the logo on the front ..

I'm lost.. :(

Gameplay orders are picking now, well mine is.

Regular or Limited ?

Place where I pre-ordered from, still has as status "waiting for release date".
Although in the faq they state that they'll send it sooner such that you're likely
to receive it on release day.

Doh..

In t'other thread we've noted that LEs and normals are being packed at Gameplay. Where'd you preorder (if not a competitor)?

A known pc store in the UK. I actually described it but I don't think the mods were happy with it so they deleted my post about it. My bad I guess..

But on topic, I was getting a bit worried about the whole PEGI/BBFC thing that
fieldy was talking about but knowing now that gameplay is shipping both versions makes things a bit more positive :)

Just hope that the store where I ordered from ships them early such that I get it on the 17th. Let's not even mention if they have enough stock or not

gow ordered from shopto about 4:30 monday, arrived tuesday. top job shopto :)

cod3 ordered from play asia last week on thursday or friday i think. arrived tuesday also.

started playing cod3 last night. dont want to go back and forth between the 2 or feel rushed to finish cod3 to start gow. had a little look at gow, looks good but want to enjoy cod3 fully before i play gow properly.

It's not a rating on the back of the game, it's the large BBFC rating on the front of the game. See here: http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/6465/gearsofwarhl7.jpg

Shops do care because they will get in trouble and staff may even loose their jobs if they are caught selling to underage buyers. I can understand that some children will get hold of it due to careless parents and such but it's still not a 'children's game'. Honestly, if you are calling GoW a child's game, what is something like Super Mario Sunshine? a Nursery game?

Why the hell is it these online companies can break the release date and not care but walk into game or whatever and they go on and on about a highstreet store has to break it before they can sell it.

The release date has been broken regardless if the companys online or not, people have it so why isn't every store selling it now? gets on my bloody nerves this. :(
