Hey,

A lot of people are starting to show interest in and/or buy these little mATX boards. I'm hunting for a nice one myself for my HTPC/2nd rig. Please email me if you want to see anything else in this first post that you think is missing (linky in sig) :)

What are GeForce 6100/6150 and nForce 410/430?

Just like nVidia's nForce3 and nForce4, GeForce 61x0 and 4x0 combine together to make a core logic for AMD's Socket 754/939 platforms.

However, instead of their new-style "single chip" approach, nVidia have decideded to split the core logic into a traditional North and South bridge. The main reason for this is that GeForce 61x0 contains an onboard GeForce 6 class GPU!

Improvements vs. nForce4 and older chipsets:
  • Manufactured on 90nm process at TSMC (lower cost, lower heat output)
  • Integrated graphics with support for DirectX 9.0c (SM3.0 compliant)
  • Integrated audio with support for the Intel "Azalia" High defintion audio standard

Regarding multi-GPU operation:

From XBitLabs:
"The GeForce 6150 and 6100 are both equipped with a PCI Express x16 bus which can be used to connect an external graphics card to be used instead of the integrated graphics or as an additional graphics accelerator, working together with the integrated one. By default, these chipsets do not disable the integrated graphics core when an external graphics card is installed and thus can support four-monitor configurations. By the way, ATI’s Radeon Xpress 200, another popular integrated chipset for the Athlon 64 platform, only allows the integrated core and the external graphics card to work simultaneously if the graphics card’s GPUs belongs to the Radeon series. The GeForce 6100 series chipsets are free from such a limitation and support any graphics card.

Not sure about stability and reliability, they are literally brand new chipsets. Based on the tried and tested nForce4 though so I expect they will be pretty solid :)

The Asus A8NE-FM is an OEM-only mATX version of the A8N-E... not much more to say than that :p Not sure about the other board.

FirebarUK: Thanks dude added in the stuff about the Gigabyte voltage. Didn't really think the PCI slot was a pro or a con, as any PCI slot usage you gain (on the Foxconn and Gigabyte) is at the expense of a useable PCI-E slot, and I guess that makes it less future proof. Also I expect a lot of people getting this board will use the onboard video anyway, leaving all 4 slots free for goodies :D

p4radox: When they come back alive I'll make a brief description and add them in to the 3rd section!

Thanks guys,

Suman

lol, well I just picked up an ATi Xpress 200 mobo from an auction site for £35, so I guess I won't be needing a GeForce 61x0 board any time soon :p will still try to keep this thread going for all you guys though! :)

p4radox, does the Biostar board have composite/s-video out capabilities? If so have you tested the quality?

Cheers,

Suman

What's your budget? And what platform?

[edit] This is what I am looking to get and will probably fulfil your needs:

MSI 945GT Speedster Plus A4R not out yet but supports Core Solo, Core Duo, Celeron M 4xx and hopefully Merom too! Has VGA, DVI, Composite and S-Video Out... and a S/PDIF too

Hey,

Just wondering, do any of you guys use these boards with the MS Media Centre remote? Are there any issues powering on the unit from S3 Suspend using the remote? Which board will allow me to do this (if any?).

Cheers,

Suman
