Anyone using the DS3 (rev 3.3) motherboard here?

Not even sure if OC are stocking the rev 3.3 yet, but I would like to know the advantages over the rev. 2 boards (if any).

:)
Haven't heard of this? Where have you seen it (not competitors but review / news sites)?

Anyone know where and how to update the graphics chipset for the DS3?
Apparently this is causing issues with Vista x64 and the new nvidia divers...
The only driver would be for the chipset, which you can grab from the Gigabyte website. The Intel website may have a newer release as that one is November 2006.

Hi guys,

What are the best coolers for this board? so I can add a list to the opening post. I've got watercooling so am out of touch.

thanks :)

however, i was wondering how i run my ram 1:1 as it should be able to push a fair way with the set i have. When i set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x", in the bios, is this the same as like running a divider on an AMD system??? should i leave this on AUTO?
Yeah keep it at 2x, which is 1:1. You can use CPU-Z to double check the divider :)

Grab the F10 bios from the Gigabyte site and double check you have the latest @BIOS software, and point it to the file you download, rather than telling it to update via the web :)

hi - i also haven't built for a while and was recommended this board.

I'm going to get a E6600 core 2 duo 2.4ghz - just wondering what speed ram is stock for that chip, and therefore what speed ram to get for an easy 3.0ghz overclock? I was looking at corsair 2gb XMS2 6400C4 but i am tempted by 4gb of something instead.

anyone using the onboard sound? i only need 5.1 so i'm hoping this will be good enough for games since i have had no end of problems with my audigy 2 drivers.
Hey there,

The FSB for the 6600 is 266MHz. 6400 DDR2 ram is 400MHz, so there is plenty of headroom for overclocking. For example my 6600 is at 378 FSB is 3.4GHz. My chip my go higher but its running perfect at this anyway. If you ran the memory at its rated/stock speed of 400Mhz, then the 6600 would be running at 3.6GHz (400 x 9 = 3600).

Unless you are doing encoding or CAD etc then you'll find 4GB is a bit of a waste at the moment. I've got 2GB and don't think I've seen it actually use more than 1GB during gaming etc. Upto you though.. ram is cheap at the moment, so it is a good time to buy.

Onboard sound now a days is generally good. I was running an Audigy 4 PCI but took it out and just used the onboard and found no difference on quality.

Your spec looks good on that list. Nothing stands out as being a problem :)

At least someone noticed it :p

Is there anything I need to update on the opening post by the way? I don't use the DS3 anymore so am out of touch.

Another question. I'll be updating the BIOS using Q-Flash from a floppy. Does the floppy need to be a MS-DOS start up disk? I don't think it does I'm just double checking.

edit - I've downloaded the latest bios, unzipped the package and its given me 3 files (Flash895, autoexec, 965PDSP.F12). Do I put all these onto the floppy disk?
You need to create a MSDOS start up disk and put the flash program and bios file onto it (or another spare disk). Once in DOS, just goto A: and type "A:\flash895 965PDSP.F12.bin".

Or just use the Windows flasher, which is a lot easier :p

Hi. I've got a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev 3.3 and I'm thinking about overclocking my e2140. I've heard the southbridge can get very hot and when I was installing my 8800GTS I noticed that it was literally sitting on top of the southbridge, bascially making it impossible to put a fan on there if I wanted. I'm also worried about my GTS sitting right on the southbridge if it gets really hot.

Could it melt anything off the GTS? Would a little fan pointing at the southbridge help?

Thanks.
Both the northbridge and southbridge get very hot, but this is normal. Just make sure you have a case fan blowing over the board area in general and it will be fine.
