***Official GTX 670 thread***

Doesn't that just add to the evidence that it could quite possibly have been a 650TI originally?

Maybe not with the current clockspeeds though. I suspect, the fact that the GTX670 massively overclocks itself means,a larger cooler would be needed due to the way the core boost function works.

It looks like AMD's accountants will be biting the ends of the pens off while there working out how much their going to have to discount off the 7950 and 7970 to make them more competitive. If/when AMD moves the price of the 7950 there's a chance they will also have to start discounting the 7850 and 7870 if the 7950 goes down to £230 a shove.

Unless AMD makes the current HD7900 cards EOL and relaunches them with higher default clockspeeds. Forget the HD7900 series - look at the HD7850!! That could probably be launched at much higher default clockspeeds.

AMD was too conservative with the clockspeeds for its reference cards and this is why they are in the situation they are ATM.Fail.

Nice. Great score. Any chance of doing some early overclocking on it? ;)

The average 7970 does not overclock by 30%.

What I mean is if you were buying now you could get a 7970 for £365 (see the vtx 7970 at 1050mhz on special offer) which would almost certainly get very close to 1200mhz. At these speeds it would outperform a overclocked 670 and have 1gb more ram. The 7970 is still very competitively priced.

havnt nvidia shot themselves in the foot with the gtx 670?? whos gonna buy a 680 now?

Not really, 680's are still flying out this afternoon even with 670 for sale. :)

Some people will always want the best, even if the best is only a little bit more faster, but cost a lot more. :)

Having just speed read through a couple of reviews, surely the fact that the 670 performs so close to the 680 gives credence to the fact that the 680 is really a 670ti...

I agree. This whole generation from both camps on price/performance is completely underwhelming. I also agree with the wide spread conjecture that the 680gtx was to be a lower ranking card. These 670 should be the new 560ti. The price from both camps is particularly hard to swallow and I refuse to pay it, this coming from a kit junkie, those are the graphics cards I have owned. I sold 2x6950(unlocked) prior to the 79xx release, should have kept them. I am rocking on a gtx 260 216 at the moment and it will do until some sanity returns

cheers

This is what is giving me so much trouble.

To max out skyrim with all the best mods @1080p you need 2.5GB. I know this for a fact because I used to have 1.5gb 580 and had to make a slight sidestep albeit loose a bit of money to upgrade to a 3GB phantom. I've monitored vram usage using afterburner.

4GB would be massive overkill for one screen, but the 3GB 580's are only a bit cheaper than the 4GB 670's, so it makes for a tough decision.

No you dont, VRAM usage graphs =/= how much Vram is needed for smooth lag free gameplay. Most of the stuff stored in the Vram is extra cached data that doesnt do anything to improve performance.

The back of the asus is very nice indeed, never been to keen on the fan/shroud on the cu, but it looks really good. The zotac reminds of the windmill sunglasses you used to get in Blackpool back in the day

I think we will be seeing sub £200 for a new GTX 580 very soon, now what a bargain that would be....less than £400 580's sli. WOW!

Probably not quite. Maybe on the stock versions. The 480 did fall to £200 when the 5xx series came out, but because the 6XX is priced slightly higher, it kind of made sense.

At the moment, you can get a 6950 for £150-180 so I'd expect 570 to maybe go to around £160-200, and a 580 to go to perhaps £220-250 depending on models. Maybe push that to £270 for a 3GB model. 670 will settle, hopefully around about 300-380, and 680 at 420+

It may fall further than that, but the above certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Anyone feel like giving me £50? It would make this decision oh so much easier....

Get me drunk, we'll talk :p

-I honestly didn't mean for that to sound like the mating call of a bar bint haha.

On another note, Gibbo, as its my birthday next Thursday and as the Mrs hasn't got me anything yet, I don't suppose you fancy holding onto another 3X for me?

Any reason to pick a KFA2 over the OcUK Palit version?... I know its only a few quid, but what is the difference in reality?... I need to save every penny I can, so don't want to spend any more if it can't be justified.

Just ordered the MSI one for £330 :) there goes my beer fund for the rest of month though lol

oh and hi everyone, I'm new member but I've been watching this thread constantly since it started, always been on overclockers checking out the forums but never signed up until today :)

Hello, good evening and welcome! :)

Enjoy your card. :)
