*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

I never get this - I've installed on at least 3 machines - works straight off, zero hassles and dead easy to use.

Windows version crashes endlessly... still to this day... used at least four different combinations of Intel hardware, with some nvidia/amd gpu added to the mix over the course of years. Always crashing, even the latest versions.

Moved to kodibuntu and it's much smoother... I can still see it crashing once in a while though, but it auto-recovers on linux in a way it can't on windows (cron perhaps, i dunno).

OpenElec RC3 decided to stop accessing my network shares for no apparent reason so i switched back to kodibuntu... I'll try openelec again now the final is out.

Can you install Kodi on another device (laptop/phone etc) to rule out the NAS as the culprit? You could also copy media over to the NUC to see if local playback is affected.

I don't think it's the NAS as I'm able to stream to my phone and tablet with no problems at all!

There is a post on the Kodi page that seems to suggest that the freezing is as a result of a "CPU C-State" power setting on some boards!?!?!? Trouble is I have zero idea how to a) check what "C-State" mine is set to and b) how on earth to go about changing it!?!?!?!?

I have a NUC (Celeron 2820) here, has been flawless since I set it on Openelec last week. If you want to compare BIOS versions or settings etc let me know.

Thanks for the offer but I really don't know what we'd compare to be honest! The weird part is that it used to work perfectly and now I can't get more than 10 minutes into any film before a freeze!

It makes sense that it could be a CPU-power issue but I can't see any "C-State" settings anywhere in the BIOS!?!?! (and I'm guessing that our BIOS's would be different anyway!)

OK this is really starting to annoy me now!!!

I've installed KodiBuntu instead of OpenELEC and managed to get the network shares working and the static IP assigned.......and it still freezes playback within 10 minutes of starting!!!

So then I thought it could be the NUC itself so managed to find the motherboard type and upgraded to the latest BIOS.....and it still ******* freezes!?!?!?!

I just can't fathom why it's worked perfectly for over a year and all of a sudden, with no changes at my end, it's not playing back media without freezing!

The only thing I can think of is that my Synology DiskStation has done a few DSM updates recently but that's more of the UI rather than the NAS itself so I can't see why/how that would have affected things!?!?!

Does anyone have any insight into what this could be??

Create NFS shares on your Synology.

Then set these as your media source, instead of using Windows (SMB) shares. Mine works flawlessly with NFS.

I saw that OpenELEC 5.0 is now released, so I took the plunge and updated on my Pi. Seemed to work fine, phew! Looks great, feels snappier too!

I have a quick question though. I've started ripping a few Blurays and putting them on my Pi/OE but upon first test they seem to stutter every 10secs or so. I was under the impression the Pi should be able to handle ~20GB uncompressed MKVs from a Bluray? Am I wrong? Playing from local USB drive btw

It's the audio, I can play some of my bluray rips as they come from from MakeMKV but some of them I'm having to encode the audio into ac3 and add that to the Mkv as the Pi hasn't got the CPU power to decode DTS-HD and my TV doesn't support pass through

Tried Kodi openelec on my pulse 8. Runs great with no hassle. Can't fatham out why they still have limited the customisations available for the aon box skin. I just can't get it to look as nice as I can on my old Gotham install. All I'm after is half night on the shift view.

I've got my Gotham set-up running very nicely now. Using Aeon Nox and it all looks really nice. There are few things I'm still meaning to tidy up, but one issue I've not found an answer to (and one that doesn't seem easy to search for):

I have a lot of films - around 800 - and whichever list view I set up it's quite a chore to scroll through to find the specific film I'm looking for. On Media Portal there was a feature which allowed you to narrow the list of displayed films by pressing the number buttons on the remote and there associated letter keys (i.e. 2=ABC, 3-DEF, etc.) to spell out the name of the film you wanted. As you pressed more keys the selection would narrow down. I can't seem to find a way to do anything similar in XBMC, though.

There is a search function of course, but for some reason I can't use the remote to select letters in the search menu so I have to grab the keyboard. I'm trying to minimise use fo the keyboard and pushing the "leanback" experience, so I don't like doing that.

Oh, on an not unrelated note, it would be useful to have the remote allow me to control a cursor and selection function for use in websites like iPlayer, which I have linked to using Advanced Launcher. Again, though, I need to grab the keyboard and use the touchpad for that.

Hmn OK thanks, how do you do that?

There's a quite a few ways but the way i used to do it was by dropping them into Avidemux.

Drag & drop the file onto it
Leave video stream as Copy
Change audio stream to AC3
Hit configure on Audio output and change the bitrate to desired
Under output muxer change to MKV
Hit the save button

Should only take seconds to a few minutes depending on the size of the file

Do any of you have a Samsung H series and HTPC?

I cannot for the life of me get 3D movies to work, my screen just goes blank and tells me nothing is connected to HDMI2
