Introducing... Wii.
As in "we."

While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

Oh dear.

CD

Hear that, thats the sound of nintendo shooting itself in the foot.

every bloody time they get something good going and manage to screw it up.

yeah they screwed the gc up. made loads of money from that. screwed the ds up - sales are just appauling. The ds lite - dont get me started. smaller, better screens...i mean ffs.

Wii is an awful name, but honestly. Its would have to go majorly wrong for nintendo to do anything other than profit from it.

the only things nintendo have screwed up are the names of their consoles. really, why drop "ultra" and call it an N64 instead. Oh and the virtualboy. that was horrid.

The name won't really affect sales at all, I mean just look at the 360, stupid name and alog the same lines as "Wii", but the only thing that hurt sales was a lack of hardware.

But still, "Wii" WTF!?

yes but aleast you could say your off to play your n64, saying "im going to play the wii" just doesnt have a good ring to it. :(

But thats the thing, '360' as a name isn't too bad. Hardly amazing, but kinda gives the right impression, thats the issue I have with 'Wii'.

ok, there's a degree of difference in the stupidity of the names but still.....

What's with all this clever (read: stupid) naming of household brands? Let's hope the PS3 doesn't follow suit.

Yeah, but just imagine if they could have thought of a bigger number!

You will all get over it. What difference does a name make?

Instantly makes the games 47.8% worse in all factors of worseness of course. Though a bad name like the "Nintendo Pile of Dog Turd" would probably put off the odd customer :p

I do like the idea the Wii, but it's just that in this country, it sounds like wee, but I guess it happens with English words over in other countries too.

Wii or Revolution, it's still going to be a bloody good piece of kit I reckon.

Maybe they should bring call the next handheld the "Puu" ? :o
