***Official OcUK 52 project thread + Weekly competiton (kinda) *** (with stars) - Week 2

Got myself an image for the second week I'm happy with, although may wait a couple more days before posting in case I get a chance to use the camera again.

Not sure how everyone else feels but would anyone else prefer a single thread for all pictures (all weeks) and then a seperate thread for discussion? Just thought it would be nice to have a single place you could see all the images throughout the year?

I suggested this last week, makes sense to me to avoid clutter; then again at this rate we'll be having a sub-forum for 'competitions' soon

*hint to Spie* :D

Big apple by Niall Allen, on Flickr

Rather than do nothing, I took this photo an hour ago. It's awful, as I was planning on going to town to the market to take photos of the fresh foods on sale (fresh/new!) but it's poured down all day and I have no transport and nothing my kit is contained in is waterproof/sealed, so this pathetic entry is what you get.

I really need to buy a flash. Oh, the photo is processed using a preset, the actual photo is better exposed, but I thought I'd make the shot look as bad as I feel about taking it.

Oh yeah, and it's "big apple" as in New york, as the theme was "new". I'm so ashamed :(

Why does everyone have an issue with this? :p

Heres how I see it.

Red = Week 1
Blue = Week 2
Green = Week 3
Orange = Week 4

And so on and so forth.

I've always been taught that the week starts on a Sunday, finishes on Saturday at midnight, hence why I said I have till midnight to do it!

Right, my week 2 :)

I'll switch it to my hosting when QiQ get their act together :(

Anyway, not much of a story behind this one, have had a hell of a week, sisters horse photographed in week 1 was put down yesterday :( - It hasn't left much time for the camera to be honest, but we did get these today so decided to take a photo and use that :)

Squeeze mine in here; I'm assuming that its a free theme and we don't have to follow TP?

This is my first crack at proper shots with my extension tubes (hence why its f/0.0 if you look at EXIF

I'm doing these at 800wide, do I need to any larger?

I did exactly this shot today, but I couldn't get it right. I got perfect candle shots, with a lovely warm cast around it, but the flame was over exposed. If I shot with centred focus point to try and get just the flame (I was thinking to layer a photo might work) it still didn't get it. One thing I didn't try was a silly fast shutter speed, so that may work I suppose.

How do you take it so the flame isn't totally over exposed? I tried a few different ways, to no avail. Although, admittedly I was getting stressed out and probably had an acceptable shot before I deleted them all in anger :D

And as for lazy Phate, most people use the calendar from the start of the year :D Technically we could have had more time in week one, and then done it your way, but common sense uses the dates as the calendar gives them :D

Not exactly sure as it was my first set of shooting with my tubes, taken with a narrow aperture (I hope as I had to set the aperture and then take the lens off)

I had to do a bit of recovery and tone down highlights in PP but not much, just a bit of sharpening and wb change. Luck more than anything; you should see my pasta shots :rolleyes:
