*****OFFICIAL OcUK/JW IP35 Pro THREAD*****

Interesting find on the new price, does put things in perspective a bit more, guess I'm now definitely waiting for the X38 board and hoping its not too expensive.

If you look at what happened with the price, it was always meant to be £70. They launched at £64 as a special offer, but with the V1.2 BIOS performance wasn't good and I suspect they didn't sell well. Once the V1.3 BIOS came out and we started posting some decent overclocks and everything was so much more positive, then I suspect the sales have improved and so they don't feel they need to discount it so much anymore. No doubt it'll be on TWO in a couple of weeks when the X38 board launches.

Is it worth £70? If you want low-cost Crossfire then definitely.

It doesn't make financial sense to get this board for 'low-cost' crossfire though, being scuppered by the second 4x port. You may as well get a 3870x2 which is now cheaper than 2 3850's, that wouldn't even have the bandwidth issue.

You can buy a gigabyte p35 ds3P (I think it is P) for hardly any more than this.

I was considering this board, but now it just doesn't seem worthwhile for the cost anymore. Not that ocuk give a hoot about opinions on here.

I won't be purchasing after this price increase, the point in this board is value for money and now that's been reduced. Was looking forward to this :(

Got to be one of the worst boards i have owned, mem dividers are fooked.will not go above 400fsb on a chip that will do well over 400 and what is going on with the vcore volts if i set 1.4 in bios still only gives 1.28 ? on the latest bios.
Cant wait to send it back :(

I think it's OK to debate value for money against other boards. I've just bought two X1950Pro's for £90 Incl. the pair and I think they'll run very well in Crossfire on this. All the P35 boards have one x16 and one x4 slot and the performance hit against an X38 board with two x16 channels is something between 7 and 20% depending on the resolution.

I think it's a bit off to post here if you don't have the board along the lines of 'I was going to buy one of these but it's gone up a fiver, so now I'm going to buy something else'. If you think that then by all means buy something else, but don't trash a perfectly good board because you think it should be a bit cheaper. I bought mine on the day of release and it was an absolute dog. I said so, and J&W fixed the issues and now it's a good board, and you have a direct channel of communication to J&W about what you want to see in the BIOS through this thread. You'll either see that as a benefit or not, and buy accordingly.

That's a fair and true assessment, a fiver for some support through the forums is probably worth it, however I'm holding out for the X38 board now to try and keep some sort of long term upgradability going. Not that I don't like the P35, just weighed up the pros and cons and have decided on the X38, after all, its £30-40 more for 2-3 years service, so its not too expensive to justify. Just need enough posts/90 days to get a second hand Q6600 from the MM and I'm set to go! - Though 90 days is going to take me like late march, by then I might have gone insane from waiting, we'll see :D.

Any more news on the X38 board then?

I think there are ample screenshots to show that the board will run well over 400FSB so it may need some tweaking somewhere. Where are you reading the voltage as the various programs read voltages in different places. What you should be looking for are the differences eg. if it reads 1.28 when you set 1.4 does it read 1.38 when you set 1.5?

The memory dividers work fine as well. They are overridden if you have the RAM set to AUTO. You need to set the timing to Manual, then enter your timings (loose as you like) and then set the strap (667MHz under 400FSB, 800MHz over 400FSB). I think you'll find the dividers work then.

[Edit]What board were you using to get over 400FSB? The screenshot you've posted with the MSI P35 Premium is only 3.6GHz (400x9) and that was 1.47V in BIOS 1.41V in CPUz

What are your grounds for sending it back?

I think it is perfectly valid to discuss the board based on value, especially given that it is an "OCUK Value" motherboard, and not J&W as such.

I am NOT trashing the board, I still think it is a very capable board and take your review and work at face value WJA. I however start think that given the likely price of a branded board in comparison to this and then the likely hood that that the x38 will be just as good as the IP35 (not a given), I may as well wait.

I still am recommending this board to a person at work who is intent on building a new PC, and wants an 3870X2 to play with, and if I didn't think the board was any good, I can assure you, I wouldn't be recommending it.

Fair enough, just wanted to point it out so the thread didn't get derailed :) There have been a couple of threads I've been reading that have been really good then was nothing but complaining against price and was locked.

WJA96, with the experience you have had with the IP35 pro, will you be getting the X38 board on launch? Judging from what has been said they have learnt their lesson about the BIOS so sounds like they'll do a better shot of it out of the box :)

Most of the reason forums are useful is for the opinions of products like this where you wouldn't normally look at it due to it being a "value" board and not a well-known brand.

I specifically think of it as a J&W board as the only time you ever see anything from OcUK is when they are issuing 'Buy Now' commands.

I agree that when the X38 board becomes available this one will look substantially less attractive, simply because the X38 will be spectacularly good value if they do launch it between £90 and £100. I didn't think you were trashing the board, however the fact remains that now it's a proven performer, OcUK have increased the price again. For what it's worth I agree that they will sell more boards at a £60 price point, but as the likelihood is that they will sell a J&W board OR another board, they can't really lose, can they?

I still am recommending this board to a person at work who is intent on building a new PC, and wants an 3870X2 to play with, and if I didn't think the board was any good, I can assure you, I wouldn't be recommending it.

It's amazing how touchy folks get in these situations. It's a debate, not a fight and your points are well argued and well received, I promise you.
