*****OFFICIAL OcUK/JW IP35 Pro THREAD*****

lol my bad

I probably ought to explain the 'not fault free' - Anyone who owns this board, or is considering buying it, is constantly made aware of the fact that it's not a branded board and that therefore support is lacking, but time after time I get asked questions about the Abit board as this thread has direct supplier contact.

Speaking of which, I'm sure Buff will be along any time soon to sort out your Abit problem.

oh right..I didn't know that about it not being a branded product.

I appreciate you telling me what you meant.

I guess Buff has this motherboard then. :D I'll have to look for the other thread.

for those who have trouble booting up with the IDE optical drive,
here is a quick guide:

Go to the "Advanced BIOS Features" --> "First Boot Device" page, scroll down to the bottom, then you can see your drive's model number.

The exact model number of the optical device will be displayed for selection, e.g. "ASUS DVD-E818A" in this illustration.

Select it to be the first boot device then it will be able to boot up accordingly. ;)

I think you have the vastly more expensive (but apparently not fault free) Abit IP35-Pro;)
find me the fault-free enthusiast mobo & I'll marry it ... :p
It's actually not that much dearer these days if you look around.

Naw from what I understand he somewhat represents Abit wheather offically or not I've yet to find out lol.
I'm just a (hopefully helpful) long time abit user - I have no official connection with them, don't work for them etc. etc. I am however, a Moderator on the abit USA forum for whatever that is worth.
I also use/have used all the major (& several minor) brands but keep coming back to them.

Competition is good so I'm quite happy to see another good 1 in the form of J&W & I'm very interested in their X38 mobo if the pricing is as intimated & it's half-decent.

in some respects Abit could learn a thing or 2 from J&W, especially when it comes to there Bios support

But just remember this is ONE forum, and it is not like there appears to be a main contact area for J&W (do they advertise this forum from their site).

However it is VERY good to see Ken on here supporting the products :) I hope that continues through the years with J&W. For once recommendations from users actually listened to, you know, like it used to be! :)

they may not be the fastest but they usually get there if it's technically possible.
It's also true that a lot of people who complain on forums never actually report their issues to the company ( & this isn't just true with abit or indeed mobos).

First thing, this seems like a great thread, the feedback from J&W really makes it stand out which is great. I've encountered a couple of problems which are probably partly due to this being my first system I've actually built before - still not got as far as overclocking yet but if things go well then maybe;). Apologies if this oversteps the entire focus of the motherboard/BIOS as a post, but I am assuming that it would be linked to it.

I've just put together a system using the JWIP35 bundle (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-092-OK) running the reaper OCZ 4Gb Memory with a Gainward 8800GT. Booting up has been fine and I went with the default settings in the BIOS (I haven't checked the version - it was the one which shipped with my mobo I received last week) and installed Vista. Intemittently instead of booting into Vista it gets to the loading screen and then the PC resets itself, offering me the option to boot into safe mode etc. I reintalled Vista and my PC behaved and then this morning it started again. Going into BIOS I set it to fail safe options and reset. This boots up but without mouse and keyboard (wireless kit) functioning. I just wanted to get some pointers as to the best route to take with resolving this on this mobo.

1 - I am going to try wired mouse/keyboard to eliminate that as a problem source
2 - I am going to clear the CMOS memory and take it back to the default BIOS values - assuming that this will give me keyboard and mouse back and let me control the BIOS settings again.
3 - Try a total reformat and reinstall vista (booting from CD - and thank you kenofstephen for the clarification how to do that as I was having problems prior)
4 - Flash the BIOS with the latest one and trying a new install (following the guide to create a bootable USB disk as I am slightly nervous about doing it from windows from the feedback about the windows installer)

Are there any other steps that would be suggested at all for this? I am assuming the reboot on vista boot is mobo thing rather than a vista thing and that disabling keyboard and mouse is more my issue than a problem overall?

And by the way - am definitely enjoying the process of building a new PC... even through the teathing problems you are in so much more control over it :)

(1)+(3) are good enough. ;)

I was assuming that should be the case... and then issue probably not with my motherboard - I was wondering if it would randomly decide to reset for some reason rather than Vista telling it to.

Also does anyone have any sugestions on how I might start overclocking my system? Currently the CPU temperature is running around 30C when the case is closed.

If you are just running defaults then you might want to increase the RAM voltage as those sticks are rated at 2.1V and the motherboard defaults to 1.88V. I very much doubt that is your problem, but it wouldn't hurt to make the adjustment. You want to increase the RAM voltage by +0.2.

Any particular reason its 1.88v by default? is that its set to 1.8 but actually does 1.88? or is it 1.88 in the bios too? Just checking - don't wanna overvolt anything.

because we found some RAMs don't boot with 1.8v.

That makes perfect sense when you think about it. Any chance of increasing the maximum CPU and RAM voltages? My E8400 will definitely go faster, but it needs more voltage. 1.58V isn't enough. I also think that may be holding back some Q6600 overclocks too.
