*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

Another possible option:

Keep current map and get a new one but no shared inventories between the two maps.

I'm just trying to throw some ideas out here really. There are advantages and disadvantages to all options (both from a player and admin view point).

One other thing... Moving builds or doing work to flatten land/etc is an extremely unlikely outcome compared to keeping a world and/or wiping stuff. Moving the pantheon is a possibility if we did wipe, I guess.

For this option I'd stay in the old map and just make do with the unstable land for exploring 1.8/1.9.

Ps, this is kinda what I meant about the lack of a 'poll' option on LT, this would be perfect for it I think.

I'd love to run a poll but in some ways I'm not sure it'd help matters much more. If, for example, 75% of people voted for a complete wipe we would still probably have a significant minority of players extremely annoyed at losing their builds.

I guess what I'm trying to work out is a fair middle ground for everyone.

Another thing (just to spam the thread more).

From what I understand there are probably major changes to the map generation in both 1.8 and 1.9 updates. Would people prefer a new world generated for 1.8 and then this new world wiped and regen'd for 1.9 or wait until 1.9 or...something else?

Snap - I don't really want to loose my stuff that I spent ages gathering. That happened on Entrox/Scrapheap Server and it p*ssed me off big style

Edit: Plus it there any chance of having a good advance warning of when the map wipe is going to happen? Really upsetting to go on-line and realise that everything has vanished and the thing you have been thinking about building all day has gone

There will be plenty of advanced warning - hence me starting a discussion about it rather than just deciding and forcing it on players :)

For that option - so long as I get to keep my items/chests - I'd be happy for a 1.8 wipe and then a 1.9 map wipe as well.

Sorry for all my 2p's.

It's absolutely fine. There is a lot to think about, which is part of why I tried to restart this conversation really :)

the issue here is we dont know what can and can not be done.
We dont know what is being talked about between the admins.
i think you will find the server fairly split over what they want.

This is something that wont keep all players happy no matter what you do.
The stuff in 1.8 looks great. but a loss of 9 months of building is very hard to take
and the loss of all the mats collected.

I cant speak for others but i can Imagen how they would feel to loose all their stuff and start all over again. I think a compromise is what is needed. At lest with regards tools for players to restart with. It is like saying to a miner. we are going to move location but you dont get to use that digger any more you have to use this spade.

Yeah. I completely agree that there will be no way to keep everyone happy. I'm hoping that we can discuss theories and possibilities here in advance though and then go for an option that appeases everyone and doesn't cause too many admin/server management headaches :)

So..has anybody that didn't want a wipe suddenly not mind the idea?

Another idea I'm toying with is:

LinkTart main world stays as is until retail hits.
1.8 world generated but this world will be wiped when 1.9 comes out. The 1.9 world will also be wiped when retail (2.0?) hits.

When retail hits we get the full on wipe. Nothing carried forward at all.

Any thoughts?

Well I hope a lot of people feel the same way as I do. My consensus of the server was literally a handful didn't want to lose their builds (half of them have changed their mind) and dozens didn't want to lose their items..

Before any decision I'll set up a poll and spam email the group on linktart to get as many votes as possible.

This is a good option I think although I'd like some of my resources moved to the 1.8/1.9 map. Not overly worried about getting them in retail as a clean slate would probably be best.

With 1.8 and 1.9 you'll be able to freely move items between the 1.x world and the current LinkTart one (if we go this route).

I mean everybody!

Ah right. I assumed that was implied when I said that nothing would be taken forward :) Inventories would be wiped along with everything else.

If people are desperate to keep their buildings, couldn't you copy the world and send them via FTP or Web server?

Or is it too large now?

It's quite large. I could put a copy for download on linktart for a bit I guess.
