*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

So uh, didn't realise the new server was up, i was waiting for it to come back to minecraft a little! Wanted to move a build from the old vanilla server, but wasnt sure if that was in the plan tbh xD

That's pretty old..I'm not sure we can get that moved mostly due to some of the older backups I have kind of messing up. What was it you had in mind?

ive spent several hours doing my build on the test server and you go and wipe it again?
literately id just sorted mass fabs and had nearly finished my frickin build, do you have the files of the old map so i can get my mercilium island and build and everything back as i had done lots of work since the build move and was slowly settling thinking there wouldn’t be another map wipe! especially without warning! i know its a ”test server” and all but that took alllllot of work!
is there any backup files you have before the most recent wipe of the test server (were looking at about 14 hours of work on my build)

I'm afraid not. As you say, it was a test server so we haven't kept backups of maps. The reason they were wiped was that they were corrupt anyhow.

Test servers get wiped all the time. Live servers do not.

Is the new map going to be filled in? So biomes are per-spawns?
If not we'll end up with horrible biomes on top of each other as MC is updated.

Is the new map generated using 1.2.5 or 1.3?

Will the new client still be on 1.2.5 or up to 1.3?

Nobody that I know actually knows what the final situation will be or even has a vague idea. One of the reasons I and several others haven't played on Linktart for weeks is because we were moving map, had builds copied and therefor weren't going to be recopied onto the new map and the only alternative was mucking about on a test map. Now we're told some will be recopied and the test map builds can be transfered too?

Not a rant, just making an observation - next time we do a map change can someone take charge of keeping players informed and ensuring the admin team all know exactly what the situation is so we dont' get mixed messages?

The plan was to pre-generate but Mystcraft doesn't work with this so we can't do that.

Yrthilian was trying to be helpful to offer to copy builds across but I had no plans to do so and no idea things were being backed up. If it means less loss of work for players then it's good by me.

Agreed /re mixed messages. To be honest I'm pretty tired of running things and have pretty much left it up to the others this time round. Clearly lessons to be learned.

We're still on 1.2.5 because some mods haven't been updated yet.

Hi guys, any chance I could join in? I have totally exhausted this on my own but it's so much more fun playing with people.

What version of MC do I need to be running? Any textures or mods I need?

In the OP there is a link to the details on how to join and also a download link for the client we use :) However, please wait for the new server to be launched later today as there will be an updated client.

If the map isn't fully generated on 1.2.5 we'll just end up with another mess of a map once we eventually move to 1.3 as the unexplored patches will be generated with 1.3 so biomes won't overlap etc if there's been any major changes in how the algorithm works. The existing live map already shots a fair bit of this if you explore. Looks terrible.

Got to admit I don't really see the point in moving to a new map whilst still on 1.2.5, wouldn't it make more sense to stay as we are and move to a new 1.3 map or even 1.3.x once mods have caught up?

The point is that we have issues with the current map causing problems. This is half the point of all the testing and updating work we've done.

As yrth has already posted we will be using many smaller Mystcraft worlds to mitigate the change in terrain generation code issues. Just waiting and generating one big new map will only put off the problem until next time there are changes - using additional worlds allows us to deal with it in future every time this happens.

Welcome back toString :)

The kick on teleport issue should be resolved shortly (it's already partially sorted).

Other testing looks promising and I've managed to pre-generate the main LinkTart/overworld world with a border of 1000. This is quite small to start with but we will either increase this as needed or add additional worlds.

- After that last restart FT, I get kicked for moving too fast when going into the mining world portal and also the neather one, it didnt happen on the overworld one though..

Yrth needs to finish fixing this when he gets back. Should be completely sorted then.

- There's a few unlocked chests about with valuable stuff in, I assume admin stuff.. around the landing zone and overworld.

I've mentioned this to yrth.

- Is /back supposed to be enabled? I.e. you die, type /back, get your stuff and carry on as before?

Definitely not. I'll see about disabling it.

- Whats with the massive obsidian penis structures around the mining world spawn area?

Yeah, I'm not sure about these big erections everywhere...

- I'm not sure what the use of the money /balance is? But it seems you can effectively make infinite money selling items from /kit. i.e. starting sword is $40.

Economy stuff should be disabled tbh. Must have been missed when we had to move to a new plugin for teleporting.

- I think disabling /world might be a good idea, it seems to teleport you to random places at the edge of the map?

Agreed. Should be disabled.

For all of the above I'll try to have a very quick look now before I head home from work.

just checked in. there's not much I can do from where I am sorry. I should be able to get to a computer tomorrow to force a proper restart on things.

I'm getting a little tired of these mod issues tbh. vanilla looks more tempting by the day. doubt we will rush into any changes unless things aren't salvageable though.

During the weekend problems with the server the livemap became corrupted so I have just wiped all the files and it will slowly regenerate the map as we go along.

edit: I've set the server doing a full map render for the LinkTart world so it should fill in quite quickly. This should pause as soon as a player joins so you shouldn't see any lag but please report it if you do and I'll cancel the render.
