Looks like Raven Ridge has been released!!

The A9 9600 is under £60.

Edit!!

These have a much newer GCN 1.2 based IGP,meaning they have much more modern media support too.

Also, regarding the Core i3 7350K - does it come with a cooler?? Because by the time you add the extra cost of a cooler and Z series motherboard, you could probably get close to a Ryzen 5 1400 and a B350 motherboard.

Nope no cooler included with 7350K...

I thought so, as a mate did a build with a Ryzen 5 1400 and one of the cheaper B350 motherboards, and IIRC the CPU and motherboard came to around £215 to £220.

So if the Core i3 7350K is £100,a cheapo Z270 is around £100,and you get a £20 cooler it ends up at around the same price.

Sure I expect the Z270 motherboard to be better, but Intel really needs to release a much cheaper range of overclocking motherboards.

Having said that when you come to think of it,the Ryzen 3 1200 at £99 is amazing value. Plonk that in a budget B350 motherboard for £70,and you still have an upgrade path all the way upto something like a Ryzen 7 1700.

Even the APUs although based on Excavator cores seem to have decent graphics perform too,so I am really interested to see how the A8 9600 performs, and that still has a great upgrade path.

I do wonder if BR CPUs will have a short life though, with Raven Ridge apparently out later in the year for laptops,I wonder if they will last even a year in the lineup??

How does the Ryzen 3 1200 compare to the fx8350 in real world gaming performance?

I'm tempted to replace my fx8350 for a 1200 and a cheap motherboard (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asro...am4-ddr4-micro-atx-motherboard-mb-156-ak.html)
And in a year or so put a 1700 or a zen2 cpu in.

I'm not expecting miracles from a £99 cpu, but if single threaded gaming performance is even marginally better then I think it worth the trade off, especially considering I'll be a on a new platform with an upgrade path

Ignore that ASRock and look at this one:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB350M/

Its around the same price at many retailers and has a 9 phase VRM with cooling.

Edit!!

OcUK have it for a few more quid it seems:

Whether the move is worth it not,it might be worth looking at some reviews in the OP,which might have comparisons with the FX8350.

I think its more exciting someone with a cheapo PC based on an A8 9600,can potentially upgrade it to something like a Ryzen 7 1700 down the line.

This is the major effect of Ryzen being much more efficient than the FX series.

LOL,but he said it would be fine with a 4 or 6 core Ryzen with upto 1.4V(or even stock Ryzen 7 which I assume is the 1700) and at around 3.8GHZ,but it make me wonder what would be better an unheatsinked 4 phase VRM or this one. He ended with saying he was uncertain whether the 4 phase ones would be any better.

Shame review sites don't actually bother testing the cheaper motherboards.
