***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

When I last looked at Rift a few weeks ago I didnt fancy it but after watching some 1080p movies today and seeing some good gameplay and nice graphics, it actually makes me want to play it now. Just wish there was a trial out though because dont want to waste money.

Would be good if you didnt have to pay monthly fees also. I guess all the best mmo's that come out over next few years will prob charge fees.

Could anyone answer a question for me please?

Just started a beastmaster as I fancied having a pet and melee. Looking at a Ranger aswell for another pet class, are rangers the same as a WoW hunter for a ranger in that you can tame most creatures you see, with a chance to tame rare pets if possible?
Also do Besstmasters get different pets as they level up?

Almost level 15 :D Going pretty slow but I've been trying out all sorts of classes, I'm not Currently a Shaman / Druid / Justicer

And so far I'm really enjoying it just need to start playing it a lot more
 
You get a pre-defined pet at various levels, you don't get to train wild ones unfortunately.

If you look up the skill tree for each class you'll see when they get new pets.

I think there's some kind of issue with pets maxing out at level 30 at the moment though. Don't really play one so someone else might be able to elaborate.

I havent played either a Ranger or a Beastmaster, but I've not seen any rangers with anything other than their summonable pets, so I am assuming that a ranger cannot tame other animals.
 
Once you start adding points to your skill tree you can get different pets

Razorbeast
Dire Wolf
Greater Dire Wolf
Greater Razorbeast
Shadow Stalker
powerful Blood Raptor

I have only got the first 2 so cant comment on the other pets as im still messing around trying different things on my skill tree

I agree something has defiantly changed since patch 1.1. I still get the same fps which is about 45/50 on ultra but the graphics just don’t look as Sharpe and its quite blotchy, and many dungeons now look quite blurry too.

Very strange

Mine havent changed at all, still getting the same fps and the same quality as before
 
I got a key off the other rift thread on the forum with free keys givaway for free rift weekend (incase you dont know the keys work for anyone and everyone, we can all use the same keys. So if you want to try out the game this weekend go in the other thread posted yesterday and get yourself a key).

So far I'm loving it, I cant even believe it, I've tried every mmo thats come out just about for past few years, the most popular ones anyway and this is by far the best so far for me.

If you were addicted to wow like I was and was wondering when something was going to come along and allow you to leave wow and move on, this is it. So far I'm loving everything about it, graphics, gameplay everything. Just been playing an hour so far, level 6. Been questing, trying out different trees. I've got a Mage class with these Souls - Warlock/Necromancer/Archon. Think this is a popular build from the videos I've seen on youtube.

I cant begin to explain why everything seems perfect to me, it's just that other mmo's, soon as I installed them, it didnt feel right, the interface, quest windows, the map, the icons, the engine, the graphics, nothing felt right...I was looking for something that had (for me) what wow had, but better...and in this game everything feels like your still in wow but looks better and plays better, and has loads of new features that are better then wows tools.

I especially like the way the charater feels, the spells look awesome, and it feels right when I cast spells, it feels like how it did with your character in wow, but better, other mmo's didnt have the same feel to me.

Like I said before, I've tried everything, guild wars, warhammer, conan, lotr, star trek, eve, city of heroes, SWG, fallen earth, and many many more....I was beggining to think there would never be an mmo that I prefered over wow but I think this is finally it.

I seriously love everything about it, and its a breath of fresh air to play something new...by that I mean, new characters, different class skills, new zones, mobs, and new tweaks, better graphics etc etc...it's still a fantasy RPG like wow, with many things similar yeah, but as people have pointed out to us wow fanboys before, wow copied other great mmo's, wow wasn't the first, so all of that is to be expected.

By the way, this reply is more targetted towards ex-wow players looking for a new mmo and that feel the same way I do.

I think it's important to understand as already been discussed elsewhere that people started with a different mmo, and whatever mmo they move on to in the future they will probably always base their opinions based on their first mmo, so its for this reason people shouldnt bash people comparing things to wow, for a lot of people wow was their first love, and like most peoples first love, it will never be forgotten!! lol

One last thing, the graphics, I am impressed, also the advanced options in the graphics menu is great, and its great that you can make changes to graphics whilst in game, I hate it when other games make you exit the game to apply changes or refresh the screen on every little change, pfff to them!! ...also I've been playing latest games like Crysis 2, Homefront, Shift 2 etc with high settings and around 40fps....this game am running at 30fps on medium-high settings...(3 year old rig + 8 month old XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB woohoo). I'm happy that I can't max it out, it makes me happy, you ask why? Because you want a game that you can't max out, gives you a reason to upgrade, am actually in the process of building a new PC anyways, but you dont want a game to come out like crysis 2 and be so well optimised it runs on anything!!! that spoils half the fun!! you want something you have to battle to get to the best settings! And if you can run it max out, then you can have some sexy graphics on a top high end machine! I tried it in ultra settings for a second earlier, had 10fps, looked amazing, haha...with this being an mmo tho if your just out and about levelling you can prob get away with 25fps and might not feel much drop in gameplay, but my advice is to get 30-40fps for overall smoothness. Just do a custom settings in graphics options and move the sliders, thats how I've managed to get most of it on high and running smooth with just a couple of settings turned down.

I swear most of the Defiants in this game are total derp. I just cannot seem to win PvP games, we either get flattened or we lost by a hair. I think I win maybe 1 in 7 or so :/ The other day had the Win Black Garden 0/1 daily, and it took me all day to win just 1 game must have been over 12 games I did.

Maybe I'm just unlucky :\

Dunno whats up with your teams man. But on the OCUK server, when I go into warfronts, we win...odd.

I find it goes in streaks, sometimes I will have a streak of 20 wins in a row, other times I will have a streak of 20 losses in a row. I've found the trick is to take a break if you are losing several because if you keep reentering then you are simply re-entering with the same people who lose each time, so I take a break and try again in a few hours and find that I get grouped with different people who play better.

The irony of course, is that if you read the forums you see Defiant players saying that Defiant suck and Guardian players saying Guardian players suck :)
 
Aye good advise, I went back to questing, been neglecting it recently due to PvP in Warfronts :) gives me a nice chill period from the frustration of PvP losing streaks.
