***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

I'm not sure why but there's a pretty big disparity at max level on the Argent+Icewatch+Shivermere shard group. The Defiants roll over us with such ease in most warfronts that a typical session can end up pretty damn frustrating.

See that kind of highlights what I was saying that on the forums defiants on all servers say defiants are useless and guardians say the same about guardians. Even just here in the last 4 posts, we have one person saying that when they do warfronts as defiants on Shivermere they win and another saying when they do warfronts on shivermere the defiants lose.

I think its just one of those things where it comes in streaks and perhaps the losses are more noticeable than the wins. It would I suppose be an amazing coincedence if all the rubbish pvpers all went defiant on all 3 servers of Argent, Icewatch and Shivermere. :)

I'm with the ocuk guild on Shivermere and I'd have to say that if I looked back over the warfronts I've done, its probably 50/50 or thereabouts. I do tend to mentally take more notice of a run of losses than a run of wins, but I reckon overall if I tallied it up it would come out somewhere between 40/60 and 60/40

I'm a Guardian on Icewatch, not done much warfronts yet, is it really that bad?

I've edited in a little 'us' that I managed to omit from my post since it changes the meaning quite a lot. :p I do agree with you though as my experience right the way up to 49 was totally different, with us Guardians winning much of the time as well, and when we lost the matches were still quite competitive and closely fought. Hitting 50 has been a real eye-opener though.

In my experience it has been yep. I'm not sure if we're coming up against lots of premade groups or are just outclassed in terms of our gear/prestige ranks but the losses are frequently pretty brutal.

I posted in this thread earlier about getting Rift. I ended up buying it for £30 but then found it was pretty much unplayable unless I made the game look really ugly.

I played it for about 30 mins a week ago and haven't been back on it.

My specs are -

AMD Phenom II X4 3.2Ghz
4GB DDR2 Ram
4850 512MB - Playing at a res of 1920x1080

I would like to give the game a chance but it just annoys me when I can't have it looking half decent without getting choppy gameplay.

Could some one point me towards some tweaks/setup guides to get the game running better?

Cheers

just leave AA off shadows off and you'll be fine , AA is the killer :(

Has much changed since the first few weeks? Are mages actually playable in pvp? I have a 48 necro/lock but havent played in ages as i got bored of the incredibly tedius questing.

I think I tried it with AA off and Shadows off and I think it was still choppy. I'd ideally like it on high with AA off and Shadows off, but running it in DX9 mode could be worth a try.

I'll try the links you suggested but first I need to download the client again as I did a format!

Cheers

Personally I don't think your 512mb card is up to playing at 1920 res. Try dropping to 1650.

Yeah I do think I'm asking a bit aswell tbh. 4850's are very dated now.

I'm considering getting a 5850... Will that be able to run it much smoother? If I was to buy a 5850 would I notice a big increase?

Thanks

I have an i5 and a 4850 playing at 1650 and I'm about 3/4 full with the quality with no AA and no shadows and I'm around 50fps.

Hmm, I think I'll drop the res to 1650 before I make any major decisions then as I'd be happy playing it at that if it was smooth.

Cheers

Slapped on Rift this morning for the first time since getting my new system, whacked it up to 'Ultra' with v sync on and edge smoothing AA! 60fps smooth except dips a bit in Meridian and down to 50fps in the warfronts, but never have I seen PvP look so good and smooth at the same time

Managed to get it running at about 40FPS Which isn't too bad. However I just still can't seem to get into it. :/

Thats ok, thats the way it goes sometimes. I've tried time and again to get into EvE and I just cant get into it. Keep on checking them out and you'll find an MMO which fits, thankfully its a genre with many different styles of MMO in it.

Just tried logging in to Rift and it had update button instead of play button, so I clicked update and it pops up with an error message saying "Game downloads with be available for pre-order update just prior to head start. Stay Tuned!"

And I press ok, and it closed the error and does nothing, so it doesn't update and it wont let me play?

Any idea what that message means?

What does head start mean? Are servers down or something?

Thanks in advance.

Did you play in any of the beta's?

Because that sounds like an error you would get if you are using the beta downloader rather than the release downloader.
