***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

The server I am on, to put it bluntly, is dead. As a dodo.

I'm waiting for server transfers to happen as if it carries on as it is I won't be playing for much longer, theres just nothing to do.

ditto. the server im on is dead too. either everyone is level 50 or everyone stopped playing it.

screw paying a monthly bill to play a SP game

What server are you guys on?

I'm on Quarrystone and that seems pretty quiet, but I'm in a good guild and keep getting invites for the instances at my level from various guildies who run the lower level ones just to help out.

Im on Tahkaat, which i've taken to calling a**hat. Level 49, and saw one other player in Shimmersand last night. Had a few level 50 players in the guild, but they have all drifted away as you apparently can't get expert dungeon runs, so doesn't look like there is much left to do.

So how's everyone doing with Rift? I didn't re-sub after the 30 days because cash is short, but my entire clan seem to have pretty much burnt out on it - most of them just maxed out and quit, the remainder stopped playing because the others had.

Thought this one might have a bit more staying power, but it seems to lack anything to keep a community together, a worrying trend with just about every mmo launched recently.

I'm still having lots of fun, I've taken my time and paced myself (all my characters are still below level 40) so haven't got any burnout.

My Cleric is sitting at 38, but I haven't played for a couple of weeks. The tedium of levelling* and pointlessness of entering warfronts as Defiant on my battlegroup have left me with little reason to login. I'm waiting for the LFG tool to be implemented in the next patch so I can use that to get to top level, then it will depend on how the top level PvP is in my guild as to whether I stay or not.

*Nothing personal against Rift, I just hate all MMO levelling.

I wont be running back to WoW, but staying in Rift depends on how interesting they make things going forward, and if the content is reachable on the server I'm on, unless they bring in transfers.

Leveling an alt with Markeh. Really enjoying Stormcaller!

Took a break from warrior so I didn't burn out, they have made it far too easy for min/max players to do what they do best.

By the looks of things Rift is going to sink and everyone is going to run back to WoW :/

I left WoW many years ago and no matter what happens I would never play that game again. I'm having fun in rift , so I'll keep playing , when I no longer have fun I'll leave. Must be quite tough being an mmo developer these days, no matter what you do people aren't happy. I'm no longer sure its even the games, I suspect its more than the majority of mmoers have been playing mmos for so long now that they are burned out on the entire genre rather than any particular title.

Yeah, I've quit wow on and off over the years I've played it and have no quit full stop and haven't played it for 2 months, my friends keep pestering me to come back but I've got better things to do than them saying they'll help me (Which they won't)

What annoys me most is when everyone keeps comparing to it WoW, It's NOT Wow and it never will be. I keep having an argument with my friend because he says Rift's graphics are crap. I'm like you don't even have the game. And then they all take the **** because I'm playing it -.-

1.2 is almost here and with it, another event.

Trion Worlds and the Rift development team have set up an aggressive and impressive schedule of updates to the game. Following last month’s v1.1 River of Souls event, players were left wondering what was coming next. MMORPG.com News Manager Suzie Ford had the opportunity to chat with Trion Design Producer Hal Hanlin and Lore Lead Morgan Lockhart about the forthcoming v1.2 Spoils of War patch. Our discussion centered primarily on the prelude event that is scheduled to run from May 4th through May 9th.

As the name implies, the Spoils of War is related to the River of Souls event. Telarans and the Ascended successfully overcame Alsbeth and her minions and now the rewards have arrived. The prelude offers players four new daily quests centered on the mysterious treasure-like items literally falling from the sky in some cases.

In the first instance, golden coins have been raining on Sanctum and Meridian but when city folk pick them up, they are corrupted by a strange taint. Because the Ascended are a bit more resistant to such corruption, the Mendicant Order and the College of Planar Studies are anxious to have these tainted coins collected and returned for further study. The collection of coins is a once daily quest that takes place only in the capital city of each faction.

If coins falling from the sky aren’t enough to give pause for thought, players will face an increase in Earth and Fire rifts that are exploding across Telara even in places they had not been previously seen. Interest will undoubtedly be piqued, however, by the fragments of ancient dragon eggshells being dropped by invaders and Rift monsters. Again, the College of Planar Studies and the Mendicant Order are both interested in having these dragon eggshells rounded up for further study. There are three daily requests sending the Ascended all over Telara in search of these rare but mysterious items.

When returning with either gold coins or ancient dragon eggshells, players will be rewarded in impressive ways as the “Spoils of War” name implies. On turning in the quest items, players will receive a container that may hold, for instance, a limited-time companion pet called the Gritty Kitty. No, this isn’t a dirty cat but is one that has been rescued from the Plane of Earth. Other rewards might include rare hard-to-find artifacts, crafting currency and even plaques of achievement.

Both Lockhart and Hanlin described the prelude event and directly tied it to the overarching story that Rift embodies. Quests are story driven. Invasions and rift activity are tied to the ongoing and evolving history of Telara. Hanlin compared Rift to live theater and said that the Trion team is nimble and can do things that other MMOs simply cannot do. If the prelude to the Spoils of War update is any indication, he may be right on the mark.

so more grinding, great!

Just give me a decent sandbox title that doesn't also insist on being full PvP and I'll never leave :)

Trouble is that sandbox titles rarely get large populations because usually they are a touch more complex and the masses like to be told what to do (and even then make it any more complicated than kill x of creature y and they still get confused as to what to do), so again it would end up in an MMO with a low population , that the masses would see as a "failing" mmo.

I'd love a new UO or a new Daoc, but I know that even if they made one of those it would end up as a niche title with a lower population because the majority of players wouldnt like it and thus it would still be touted by the masses as a failed mmo.

Well it is an MMO, the vast majority of MMOs are about grinding, its merely how well its hidden.

At the end of the day, in MMOs we grind mobs to grind xp to grind levels to grind loot, whilst grinding running around, grinding resources, to grind crafting to grind coin. No matter what it is a person wants to do in an MMO it will require repetitive actions. I suppose really it applies to many things, in Mass Effect I grind mobs over and over to go through the game and in the total war games I grind battle after battle to go through the game. I guess really gaming and grinding go hand in hand. Thinking more on it its not just gaming I suppose, I grind squash and photography, if I looked at its most base level, over and over to get better at it.

All that matters is whether the grind is fun, I had fun in UO whilst grinding and fun in Daoc whilst grinding and currently I am having fun in Rift whilst grinding :)

fully aware MMO's are grinding! but Trion should at least mix it up a bit! make it a bit different! I like the idea of the River of Souls event, they should have more of that but of course not with all the issues we all experienced .
