******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

The latest on Chris chrising.

Its interesting, a couple of nuggets in it, for example "Our goal is to have 1,000 player shards this year, 10,000 player shards with dynamic server meshing"

We are currently on 700 player shards.

The history of it is, 25 players - 50 players - 60 players - 100 players. Static server meshing, 500 players - 550 players - 600 players - 650 players - 700 players.

Note that on a per server there is still less players than when we had 100 player servers as there is 10 servers in a shard currently. Meaning overall the shards are costing CIG more than their previous individual servers.

I initially didn't want to come here and sound negative, but I just can't accept how the flight mechanics looks. It is as if the spaceships in atmosphere has no mass, it looks really janky and fake.
If I had to put a finger on just one thing I don't like, it would have to be this.

Its a valid criticism...

In terms of flight this will basically always be an issue because thrusters are so powerful that they will always make the ships look like they are massless.

The only parts that would add weight to them is the landing compression and the whole not ragdoll in the wind when landed but flight wise you will find it very difficult for it not to look fake and janky cause realistically if they had such thrust and that it's how they would be able to manoeuvre with 6DoF.

Nah, instantanouesly overcoming interia is not a thing unless you have unlimited energy

They don't overcome inertia now though. You drift, but course at certain speeds, if you are going slow enough of course they are powerfull enough to overcome that inertia. That is the problem there. The problem is all the thrusters have huge power and instant max power so you are able to achieve 5G or more instantly in terms of thrust so until you are beyond a certain point they are able achieve that instant jerk movement.

Once you get to higher speeds and you try and adjust direction you still drift, not all ships are setup or working as intended but it has been there showing that is a thing with the ships that had some setup. They have also shown it would be more extreme once they tune the thusters and ramping comes back into play and aerodymanics are finalised (also being worked on) so both those will help with that side but yeah if you are limited to certain speeds in atmo for any reason then it wouldn't look any different again.

The biggest issue with it all of course is just the fact they can hover, they really need to do something about heat buildup or fuel use when trying to hover with the mav thrusters so it only happens for short period or not at all with some ships tbh. Make Vtol important.

Just a heads up in case people aren't aware, CIG have suffered a data breach. Claims is that no payment data leaked, but other account details may have.

Yea i saw

4.7

They have filled out Nyx a bit more, we now have space stations, they are unique to Nyx, they are like Levski but smaller.
Nyx I and Nyx II are in the star map but you can't go to them.
Rock Cracker is in.
New Inventory system is in.

According to the newspaper on the 4.7 loading screen the surface of Nyx I is complete and now there is a land grab going on with people building settlements....

Not looked at crafting yet but I’ve rarely enjoyed it. Most games tend to stick to the add part a + b to make c.
Sometimes recipes or blueprints are known, other times you discover by mixing random stuff, sometimes you can see future recipes but you need to unlock them by gaining reputation or other stuff.
No idea how crafting could ever be made interesting tbh, easy to make it more complex but if that translates into fun is another matter.

What i have not seen before is materials quality, so you can have the same gun as the next guy but if you took the time to find better quality materials to construct your gun with then its a better gun.

Other than that i think crafting and blue prints gives a reason to play the game loops.

Oh I have I think they introduced it in WOW ages ago, there were a few variables that could impact the stats of a finished item, (skill, concentration etc)and you could modify further by using specific ‘finishing items’ to boost a chosen or random stat.
Yeah I’m not saying it’s pointless at all, just I think it’s hard to make it interesting as a standalone feature, but supplements existing loops as you say.
Plus introduces new ones I guess as I guess there are ways to get higher quality materials based on more than just where you get them from.

Have u played dune awakening or enshrouded or even space engineer?

Crafting is such a big loop there and it will be for star citizen
