******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I do feel buying into the game to be overly complex currently. First we have Squadron 42, Star Citizen, Alpha and Beta, and Arena Commander to consider. What's wrong with Star Citizen, with Alpha phases & Campaign? It's self explanatory and doesn't try to come off as being more than what it is. Then there's the prices to get involved. There's no 'This gets you in the game' choice. Instead we have to go through ship and hanger packages. I understand it all fully, but for someone who hasn't looked at the game yet it just seems to be a bit over the top. Here they are selling all this stuff for some ridiculous prices, for what is at the end of the day a few digital ships.

I understand you treat it like kickstarter - you pledge an amount and you get this as a thankyou... but it doesn't state that. Infact it's just a store where you are explicitly buying products.

The store and site in general are an absolute bloody mess, I particularly dislike these sections:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ <- Stuff EVERYWHERE.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link <- More stuff EVERYWHERE

Organisation section on the website is fairly poor, chat doesn't work right and dont' get me started on the pledge store, I had a proper rant about that recently in org chat. You'd think it was impossible to put in a search function or actually make a damn list. Add in the fact that if you have lots of little items in your hangar on the site (this page: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/pledges) it gets cluttered and there's no way to list or organise them, it's almost as if they're guilty at taking your money..

What annoys me is there's apparently a team working on this site, how the hell they manage it is beyond me :)

When it comes to buying ships, I'm split. Personally I own several but that's purely as I'm that keen to ensure the game is made and I'm time-poor/cash rich so I'd rather pay to have them at the start. I'll still have only pennies to start trading with though so it's not as if I'm giving myself a huge head-start here, heck I can probably only afford to run the starter ship, but that's fine :)

It's also why our org avoided getting an Idris, although we've since ended up with two. We wanted to ensure the running costs were viable for an org with a membership cap!

ah ok. How would one join a corp?

and can someone explain to me how I get into the Dogfight module please. I can jump in my ship, but nothing seems to happen from the hanger.

Dogfighting - make sure you've put your helmet on first :) If you have check for another ship you can hop into, I've had an issue where I had two Hornets in my hangar and only one let me join Arena Commander

The organisations (corps/clans/guilds whatever) have a huge list here:
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/community/orgs

You can use the search option to find ones you're interested by activity they're most likely to take part in i.e. exploring, the size of the org etc. I would suggest reading the org pages and having a nosey at who's a member as one org varies hugely from another :)

There are two OCUK orgs in the OP but here's the links, as an OCUK member you'll be welcome in either, or both - you can actually join up to 10 organisations in Star Citizen.

The Corp - XSGamers Gazanimal's live stream!

I hated joypad, I'll be honest I feel like I'm missing half the controls on it! A couple of kind people have made and distributed a TARGET file for my T16000M cheapy joystick which has made the world of difference :)

Mouse and keyboard work fine though, try out any options you have though. Right now for me personally it'd be Joystick > Mouse/key > Joypad.

I've never been much of a console gamer though so joypads rarely sit well with me, fine for Fifa games though ;)

Kanifee that doesn't surprise me, I was in a similar boat last year as I'd registered in 2012 then forgot entirely about the game until october 2013 :P

I'm with Paul here tbh, I've spent hundreds of hours on the forums, TS with various orgs, taking part or running competitions, watching live streams and you tube vids etc. I've pretty much had my moneys worth already.

The community is very hit and miss, more so than most I've been involved in, there's a core of superb contributors on the RSI site, you just need to fight your way past the muppets :)

Kanifee yes that'll get you going mate, good choice tbh we were talking on teamspeak last night about the 300i and every one of us preferred flying it over the Hornet, just feels more alive :) The digital bounty hunter pack includes all beta modules so you'd only ever have to pay for the alpha ones you want to take part in, then get them all later on.

The Freelancer Advert has been added to the OP:

Nice to see my Cutlass making an appearance even if it is only to be blown up within 5 seconds ;)

Apparently both Cutlass in the commercial were unarmed and unshielded, the Freelancer had a pirate logo on his ship - so people are now stating that it only proves Freelancer pilots are murdering scum lol.

Got to love how people overly analyse everything that CIG produces.

N52Te or throttle with decent number of buttons on it and I'm fine for P2T. Voice activation on TS is too hit and miss depending on who's using it. I've heard so many conversations with other peoples mothers, wives or cats over the years as they forget it's turned on.

It's fine in a small room, but in those with 20+ players it can get annoying or highly amusing quickly.

Wireless sets when someone goes to the loo can be downright hilarious.

Currently you only have a hangar to walk around in an view the ships you've bought, which are actually in the hangar - there's not a lot of them there yet. Arena commander is the dog fighting test module, it's only been out for a short while and is an early alpha, other than that there's literally nothing else to play.

Essentially it's a tiny fraction of the final game, in testing so there isn't a lot to do. No multiplayer for most people yet too, that's being worked on.

Must admit other than the occassional connection lost message I've had a fairly stable time in AC so far, has one bug getting into a ship and my buggy seems to drive itself but hardly game breaking :)

Not sure which you'll get to be honest, would be surprised if it wasn't the Hornet, but tbh you're better off in the 300i IMO, much better to fly ;) At least for now!

They'll all be tweaked and we know the flight model is going to change but the Hornet's internals are no where near as nice as the 300i and it feels like you're flying in soup too..

People whinging about the freelancer, what's new? Honestly I've gone off that ship partly due to the constantly community bitching it seems to generate! They will never, ever be happy with it until he copy and pastes Firefly into the game, even then they'll realise it's far smaller and they'd have been better off with something the size of the Banu MM! :)

I really wish the launcher and RSI site passwords were different, could lend my account out to you that way Chris, got too much on there (ships, ownership of org etc) to reasonably give access to anyone else though!

Very annoying that they haven't split them yet, I don't really like having my personal data linked to a game login credentials.

I haven't actually managed to fire a missile yet, don't think the binding is setup on my T16000M yet, need to look at TARGET to see what it's set at.

Aurora - didn't go well, really was quite a mess. Think I got utterly trashed at the start of the third wave.

Hornet - slightly better, just tougher really. Got to wave 5 or 6

300i - Not sure why but I seem to consistently have more fun with this, been on wave 7 a few times.

Only had a few tries, mostly with joystick though as that's what I'd rather be using, joypad was OK though, mouse and keyboard was fine and arguably the most accurate though.
