Maybe in the long run, way too short this season. It's optimistic to think they'd be ready in a year, but maybe with another midfielder bought when he goes they would cope

We arent short in Fabregas' role though. I would be happy for Nasri to take up that position this season. The areas we arent ready is in defence which he promised to strengthen.

Unless he brings in two CBs and a GK I can see us falling short again in the league and having to settle for a CL spot.

If one of our CBs is injured we are just screwed this season if nothing changes.

Yet they were only willing or capable to offer £35m for Fabregas. Everybody knows that was never going to be nearly enough to get him and it's not likely to be next summer too.

Fabregas has got plenty of time on his contract, Arsenal don't need to sell and Fabregas isn't likely to kick up a fuss.

How much did they spend on Villa before that though.....surely that would be £70m worth of available cash or there abouts (next summer), if they have the same amount ...even if they dont do the double/treble they will have enough for Fabregas

(no disrespect, but max Fab will go for is £50m if not less given the year less on his contract)

He never actually said that, all he eluded to is that he agreed with Blatter who said we should sell him to Real Madrid and even then he ended up denying saying anything

Like Sham said no United fans I know hold anything against him, he's arguably the best player to ever play for us and won us pretty much everything there is to win, still a United legend imo

If he hadnt fallen over so much in his final season (and general play acting - which may be good enough for average football players but shouldnt be done thing for Ballon D'or winners) he would have been a true legend.

He had 2 great seasons with us - possibly three, I still think within about 5 - 10 years his majesty will have faded dramatically (from a Utd point of view)

Think most Arsenal fans know or have known for a while not that he would be going this summer or next. The only thing that could hitch that is that Barca seem to refuse flat out to pay what Arsenal want, on their statement today they even went so far as to clarify they never bid over 40m euros, and while that's a boat load of money, it just isn't enough to make it worth losing such a good player.

Unless Barca bid £40m or above I can see this ending messily, even though I think Arsenal are willing to let him go, it has to be at the right price. Players that good come through your club so rarely, and are irreplaceable, so you need proper compensation.

Also, the main reason he didn't go this summer is because Barca just didn't bid enough, it doesn't have much to do with Wenger feeling bullied, I do think that if they'd offered £50m he'd probably have left. Also you have to consider that Arsenal need sufficient time to find replacements and that shouldn't be done in a hurried fashion over a few weeks

I totally get where you are coming from - the only thing (slightly) working in Barca's favour , next summer, is that when Ronaldo's sale actually went through / was confirmed, the dire straights of the world economy hadnt yet hit Real's books so Utd got the amount he was worth .......and arguably more

Given we are talking 2 seasons down the line from then when the sale is next possible to happen (Im ignoring Jan window for cup-tied reasons) while Barca will still be rich, their "overdraft" while not as bad as the media has made out, and their general income will be worse - or at least will have to stretch further - than it did in summer 2009. Of course this isnt Arsenal's problem, but at some point it does become AW's problem (unless the economy recovers).

Sold at the same time as Ronaldo, Arsenal could have expected £50 - £60m (with the length of contract he has now)......but next summer I would guestimate £45m, £50m if AW is incredibly lucky.....in all fairness has Fab got markebly better in the last season, Im not entirely sure (:

Because he is a secret Utd supporter :p

He certainly has nothing good to say about Arsenal.

Whenever Eboue leaves us then he wont be interested at all in Arsenal and we would have to listen to his same old "Arsenal arent going to win anything this year" rubbish.

I just wish he would get a new message to put across. He repeats the same rubbish over and over again. Boring....

Yet all the other ARsenal fans, including you repeat the same old rubbish over and over, particularly about me.

Maybe I should repeat that, i criticise Wenger, Diaby Denilson Song, Sagna, Theo, while i think everyone else is great.

WHile the majority of Arsenal fans on here never shut up about Denilson, Diaby, Theo, Gallas, Toure, Bendtner, Eduardo, Eboue, Senderos, Fabianski, ALmunia, Reyes, etc, etc, etc, etc.

I have FAR less negative things to say and consistantly say I think we have a competitive squad, we just play the least competitive team possible out of that squad, then you guys basically all talk rubbish, ignore that I think (till recently) we had the best squad in the league, and that we should be winning titles, but don't let the truth stop you or anything.

What as Fabregas going for 1/2 price got to do with me being a supporter of another team.

Vieira was the first player we "persuaded" to stay for another season, after receivign 30mil offers and plenty of interest, he stayed, and left for £16mil the next year when he really forced his way out because it was clear, TO THE CLUBS OFFERING FOR HIM, that he was leaving no matter what.

Henry was the next player who was persuaded to wait another season, and every club who wanted him knew he was simply leaving that year. What does that mean, when Wenger makes a deal of one more season, and then the team fails, the player leaves and everyone on earth knows he's leaving, suddenly he's not worth 80million before, he's worth half that. Ronaldo, if he'd been at a losing team, that won nothing, didn't win the league, if he'd made it clear he wanted to leave he wouldn't have been sold for 80mil, and if the manager managed to persuade him to stay for just one more year and hope the team turns around, he'd have been sold for even less the next season.

Whatever happens now, unless Arsenal win the title, or the CL, Barca will know for a fact that Fabregas wants out, there will be no question his value will instantly drop, as its done twice in recent history. You can ignore that its happened twice, to Arsenal, costing us £30mil already, and it WILL happen again next year. Yet another year Arsenal fail to be competitive massively strengthens Barcelona's position in negotiations, not ours, anyone who thinks otherwise is quite literally stupid.

EDIT:_ PS, can you name a single time I said at the beginning of the season Arsenal won't win anything..... when we have? Because you said I come out with that rubbish, while other people on here think Arsenal are in with a great chance, infact with several fans saying they think we'll win something, but when I say I think we'll win nothing, and then we win nothing, I'm talking rubbish? This is the problem with the few people on here who bash everything I say, you are all always completely wrong about Arsenal, every time, yet constantly say I talk crap.

Oh, and the hilariousness that is apparently Wenger offering 23mil for Reina from Liverpool is the big story in the Sun tomorrow.

Yup, Wenger, 23mil, for a keeper, I'd actually welcome it, and we CAN afford it, and theres also one thing in his favour. If the chinese are screwing them on cash for the sale, selling Reina for 23mil and sticking that in their pockets before they sign the club away might seem like a good option right now :p

Is it April the 1st or something, another SUn story is Anelka supposedly saying Spurs are absolute favourites for the title this season..............

Your word is not the truth. It's your opinion. It's not hard to say negative things about a team that havent won anything in the last 5 years.

I think it's your general attitude towards the club that gets peoples backs up on here. It always seems so negative and depressing. That's how it comes across to me anyway.

You expect it from other forum members who support other teams but when you hear it from your own fans then it doesnt come across well.

Reina would be a great signing but like you said it would be a big ask for Wenger to spend that kind of money on a single player. Personally I think the GK should be the most expensive player in the team as I think he is the most important. I am always surprised when they cost no where near as much as a good midfielder or striker does.

This is the sort of comment I like to read from you ;)

well thats the thing, I'm just about the only person around who as a gooner says we have the strongest squad around.

I've pointed out many times, for years Chelsea have had, Drogba, and thats it and more recently Anelka aswell, Arsenal had RVP, Ade(when he was with us) Vela, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela, and then youth players of which a couple are promising.

Utd have Rooney, Owen, Berb(who I rate highly, anyone who doesn't is stupid).

Upfront, we have more firepower than anyone in the league, by far, I think before Chamakh we had more strikers, top strikers, than anyone, maybe not actually the very best striker, last year being Drogba by a margin, but so much depth its sick.

The negative part comes when I see Wenger ignore Eddie, Vela, Theo as a striker, Thomas, Bendtner and stick, Arshavin upfront????? its just madness. We had several games where Arshavin was just horrible upfront, and Vela, a striker, on the wing and the team wasn't clicking. Its not massively negative, its just, amazement, and confusion, how many games last year did Utd play Rooney on the wing and Valencia as the lone striker? How many times did Malouda play upfront with Drogba on the wing? None you say, yup, and that makes sense to me, I can't think of a single reason you'd switch either two sets of players around, and I can't think of a single reason to play Arshavin upfront over 4 or more other strikers.

In midfield, I hate diaby, song, Denilson, inept fools, yet Wilshire should have got a bunch of games last year, Arshavin's great, Rosicky was fit most of the season and got smeg all games, Nasri came back and played quite a bit, Eboue can play in midfield yet was in and out the team like a yoyo.

For me Wenger is playing the team like, had Drogba gotten injured, they'd ignore Anelka, Sturridge(who seems very decent) and put, Kalou upfront on his own, dropping Essien(if fit) and putting Beletti in, sending Ashley cole out on loan and starting Bridge(metaphorically speaking). Would Utd fans not all call for Fergies head if Rooney was injured for half the season and they didn't go to Owen(if fit), Berbatov, or Macheda, or Diouf, or Welbeck, but played Valencia upfront out of position? I have no idea why other Arsenal fans, based on Wengers early years, are completely willing to overlook what he's doing to the team.

We've got simply a huge huge squad, huge, unbelievably big, I see where Utd drop off from Valencia and giggs, right into Fletcher, Carrick, Gibson and think we have far better depth and better players on the bench than starting and wonder wtf is going on.

I mean, would it make sense if Utd had Owen, Berb, Rooney, Cantona at his best, and Andy cole, and moved to a 4-5-1 even though his strikers are better than the extra midfielders he puts in, and they play worse football? It would be madness, and thats whats happening right now at Arsenal, and we're becoming a joke.

I think that is the first post I have read (football related) that has actually come across as you are a fan rather than just an angry person.

I still think we have one of the strongest squads attack wise but our situation with the CBs(beyoung the first two)and GK are worthy of crying.

Still really looking forward to the big kick off and cheering on the Arsenal :D

Last night #mufc completed loans for Diouf to #Blackburn (season) & Joshua King to PNE (mid Nov). Welbeck loan to SAFC not complete yet

Ben Hibbs on twitter, Diouf is confirmed on Sky Sports etc also.

What on earth makes you think that

Becuase if Rooney and Owen stay fit and Hernadez even looks a bit of a goal threat he wont get picked, thats why.

He is already at the point where Ferguson would rather pick a player who can barely walk ahead of him when we need to get a result.

Based on what  Berbatov was chosen over Owen many times last season and has played most of pre season. Maybe you're confusing what you would do with what Fergie would do?

System doesn't suite Berba, everyone knows that, but he's hardly a bad player. If we decided to play him a bit deeper, and Rooney got a bit more disciplined in not playing right back for half the game, he'd be quality. Alas, we can dream...

Its what Fergie WAS doing, he picked him over Owen many times, and he didnt perform, the last straw was the Chelsea game where he literally did nothing the entire match, that led to him picking Rooney to play, while injured.

Or mabye that didnt happen?

In fact i've got £50 here that says I'm proved right at the end of the season.
