Oh dear, I think I must be getting old

Those VWs aren't bad at all really :D I was similarly surprised by the 59 plate Mazda 6 Sport Diesels my workplace gave to some of the salesmen here as there was a mixture of soft and rubbish plastics but the top half of the dash was matte and soft like on BMWs. Drives really smooth too (they're all manuals).

My parents have the 2L TDI Passat (140PS I think) and aside from its a little bit plasticy inside and the handling is a little "sharp" its a decent enough car for driving, effortless and comfortable - as you said no frills but it gets you from A to B smoothly without drama and not completely lacking poke if you let it go either tho the handling would ruin the experience for me at higher speeds.

TBH tho at that price you could probably move upto an Audi for a bit better experience.

Own another Passat or drink my own pish?

Tricky one.

And I agree, I wouldn't own one myself, but overall it wasn't as poo as I was expecting.

You couldn't even bring yourself to write one off properly :p Least my folks killed theirs by driving it through a flooded road.
