Well I've certainly struggled with fps since getting the ps3, the standard control layout leaves me in a spinning mess shooting at the floor or sky.
I have just discovered the reason for this is I'm a southpaw ie uses the left stick to look & the right to move/strafe.
Reading up on this it seems its usually a lefthanded issue, even though I'm righthanded.
I lay the blame squarely at the N64 & playing goldeneye & turok many years ago when I used the stick to aim & the yellow buttons to move. This to me is the natural way to play fps games.
I really dont fancy trying to reprogram my ageing brain to change over 10 years of inbuilt reactions, but it seems there are a few ps3 games that dont offer the southpaw layout eg metal gear 4
How do others/lefthanders cope?

Well, I don't have your problem, but when I first got console I adapted fine to using "up" and "down" on the right stick to look up and down, but on PC I always used "down" to look up and "up" to look down. When I went back to PC gaming after a while, it totally screwed me up :) Finally adapted to using "up" and "down" on mouse for looking up and down, but I was never as good at aiming with a mouse ever again :(

I made the effort to switch years back.....it was painful but now there's no way I could go back. My friend didnt and he has major trouble with most games.

I have my Y-axis inverted, i.e. up=down and down=up. My mates hate me for it as I always spend ages messing with the controls when the controller is passed to me for what is normally a short go. I blame it on PC gaming.

I was also a southpaw from the N64 days, but Ghost Recon didn't even give us the option to change controls so i had to learn the other way.

Its disgraceful in this day and age that we can't change a simple thing like that in our games, when they are the single most important factor.

I remember this way from the Goldeneye days, but never even noticed when it came to playing the other way.

to me there is no up and down on the sticks though (unless you hold the pad vertically) its forward and back and biomechanically inverted makes more sense to me :D

Yea, not sure why I invert my vertical look... It just feels right, but I can't remember when I started to do it.

Well if we go with the forward and back rather then up and down then the neck and head both move forward for looking down.....makes sense to me.....unless you hold your controller vertically :D

You lot used your left hand with the nintendo controller? Am i the only one in the world who learnt how to use it with the right hand well?.

Its really simple. Hold the middle handle with your right hand, your left hand goes around the top part where L and R are and it can reach every button easily and do them at the same time if needed.

A far superior way of playing the nintendo as it lets you use your better hand to aim ;)

I'm a lefty and had similar issues with Fight Night 4, using the stick to throw punches, it just didn't feel right and always a little sloppy. Luckily they made a patch so you could use buttons.

Eventually got the jist for a regular FPS, but HAVE to invert up and down.
