Last week I got scraped by a car as I was pulling out (I admit, I should have been looking better, I looked twice, not thrice like the adverts say...but anyway the other car should have been going much slower since there were 2 cars stopping indicating to turn in on my left but he just kkept at his fast pace without a worry. Anyway, all that jazz aside my car today is naked, I decided to refit a new bumper myself, honda wanted £360 but breakerlink got in contact with nationwide breakers and a garage contacted me within the hour with a price of £45 for a bumper fresh off the same EG civic (same colour too) and good as new. Should be coming tomorrow. I was going to get a new bumper anyway as the jdm foglights I wanted wouldn't fit on the old bumper (it was a refit anyway, old owner had scrape too it seems) and for £45 I would rather do it myself and not get insurance involved with excess and all that.

Anyway, tomorrow should be as good as gold but it really does look quite funny without a front bumper :D

Also never realised the washer fluid/radiator reservoir were kept so low down and so big, thought they'd be a little more protected too from impact!

(latch has been fixed, it raised down from the bumpers crumpling, spent the morning sorting this out. Fender wall was a pain to get through though, not much rom to move a screwdriver around in without removing the wheel, managed to avoid it though)

As an off note, does anyone know where I can get the old style Si alloys? barring the black spoke silver rim 5 spokes I have seen on some the Si ones are the only ones I really do like on gen5 civics but can't seem to find anywhere to get them at a decent price :/ - Also having trouble finding front/rear bumper lips

I think in an impact the last of your worries is the state of your washer fluid :D

well that's on the right, the radiator reservoir is on the left side of the pic :p

I dunno, his door panel has some light scratches that are easily repaired with a quick mix - whether he will spend the time to get insurance involved with just that is his choice. Probably not though unless he kicked in his door when he got home in order to be able to get a claim.

My premium is low anyway so I'm not too fussed either way for this year.

OT but I saw your car in gosport today!

I thought no that can't be MRK's car because it has no front bumper :p Seems it must have been.

A local goon! where abouts do you live then? I think the folks on my road have gotten so used to seeing it that I got 2 people stopping asking me if I'd "pranged" it because there was no bumper :D

Did you see it being driven? that must have been shortly after I fixed the latch, went for a quick wobble test to make sure the latch stayed secure as it should.

No it was parked in front of what I assume is your house.

I am not too local (Southampton), but you live about 2 mins away from my grandparents. I was out visiting them today.

I honestly thought 'OMG that is mrk's car' then saw the front bumper was laid facing downwards infront of it and thought 'no, can't be!' then I see this thread.

It depends on their attitude towards insurance. I made a claim on this minor indiscretion at someone elses expense. Didn't cost me a penny even at renewal time :)

Most of the bumper damage could have been polished out but I thought I may as well claim and get it perfect again.

I guess so, I plan on having this car for another year or so then selling it on in the same tidy condition to get a newer coupe model (which incidently is lower ins group, mine is 12 atm, newer models up to 1.6si are group 10 (lower on 2000 models iirc)) so either way it should work out the same if he claims or less if he leaves it! should be less both ways though. I'm paying £570 a year atm fully comp.

Heh yeah it's a pain driving up there, there used to be a proper drive few years ago til the row was rebuilt and we have yet to have a sloped drive "planted?" - something for the summer apparently.

well ifhe was likely to be claiming from you, why didnt you just claim off your own too and get the repair done by agarage (orwas the excess more than the repairs etc)

Excess is £360 :) Bumper was £45 getting it myself and the rest is all a bit of spare time. No other damages other than bumper though so I chose the most convenient option and I also would have had to buy a new bumper anyway :)

All ok now :) just got a new front plate coming tomorrow so all will be complete (once foglights are installed end of the month :p)

Looks like new :)

So, you had a Civic, then a Volvo, which you then sold and bought another Civic? Didn't you have a purple civic?

I'm so confused :(

I think he had some kind of Proton and Rover Metro before the Civic.

hehehe, I just made it pink in photoshop for laughs and some people really thought I painted it pink/had a pink car !

I had a L reg metro 1.1 which a cement truck crashed into (first car) and a accident claims company paid me more than what I bought it for. I kept it for salvage and sold it for a further £120 :p

I then had a mint R reg proton (same as the then mitsubishi colt) 1.3gli which skated into another car on the way home from work one very rainy night, again insurance paid £1100 for it minus excess (I bought the car from stoke for £560)

The Proton was purpley blue though so maybe that's what you were thinking off because there is no way you can mistake purple for pink :p

And now the civic ^_^

Next? a newer civic!
