Smart meters are another thing that are mis represented to people, they do not save you money, they do report accurate usage to the company so you only get billed for what you use, and they may well tell you just how much that cup of tea cost you to boil the water, but what do you do with that information? For some just not have that cup of tea then.

The reason (the real reason) smart meters are being pushed is it gives the energy companies almost real time data on how much energy is being used so they can manage the grid better.

There is really no benefit to the end user.

I bought my mum an Owl 'clip around the main leccy wire' device to report kWh usage. It sent her into meltdown and she avoided using any appliance at any time - so they do influence behaviour. As the old saying goes, if you can't measure it, how can you manage it?
