OK I can't take it any more * Ford 1.4 TDCI tuning help*

Well, it's pretty simple really.

A standalone Engine management system like a Motec is just about as far from a "Bolt on" component are you're going to get without messing around with engine internals.

Are you aware of just how much a MoTec system costs? Does this include a loom? (I'll eat my shoe laces if there is an off the shelf plug and play loom available for your car). Do you have a local tuner in mind? Is he sufficient in tuning MoTec systems? How much does he charge? How much does the garage with the Dyno he is going to use charge per hour?

We are talking thousands upon thousands of pounds for the ECU ALONE. Thousands of pounds on a 1.4 Ford Diesel to make a pathetic amount of horsepower. You have not thought this through.

Your kind of going very OT but, the last motec type ECU I bought was £700 ish, not sure what the actually cost of the ECU setup was, but it wasn't thousands upon thousands of pounds as you seem to think.

EDIT - I reread that, and everything you say is correct.

Sell it and buy something else.
Modding will probably affect* the resale value, along with insurance, etc.

Is it really worth it?

Not sure. Trading the car in for something quicker, in the 45-55 mpg range might be the best option. It just depends on what I can get for the car.

I'm thinking this, http://www.chipexpress.com/products/660/ and a intercooler should give me what I'm looking for.

Has anybody had any experience with these new plug and drive ECU mods ? I'm a little worried they could screw the car.

When I saw the title I just thought "pointless".

The 1.4TDCi is a festering turd of an engine designed to carry around a weekly shop and run the couple of miles through town to work. It does this very well and very frugally at that, but to try and get any more oopmh out of it is silly; just to echo everyone else in this thread, sell it and buy something else.

A penny dropped whilst reading this thread.

If this engine is the same the one that I drove a couple of years ago I can understand why there is a need for more power, that engine was totally gutless!

It was so bad that I said it was the worst car that I drove in 2008:

58 Reg Ford Fiesta 1.4 TD (tdci?) i'm not sure whether it was de-tuned as it was a hire car (there's not exactly much power to detune) but it was stupidly slow, slower than a 1.25 Fiesta.

I'd not even bother considering getting any more power out of it, just put the £ towards another car.

Why didn't you get the 1.6?

I've never felt short of power in mine.

Yes I should have got something faster. Really I should have got the 100 bhp Panda.

Your 1.6 is 75 BHP ? Whats the power like over 3500 revs ? The 1.4 starts to get a bit flat at the point ?

You are going to buy a MoTec for a 1.4 TDCI?

Just lol.

Not sure why that's funny. I want more power and a programmable ECU is the best way to get it. Plus I should be able to use motec again on some types of engines.

I could understand you laughing if I spent thousands doing it.
