Can anyone recommend a replacement undercoat spray for games workshop models?
Younger brother is not amused that the can of black GW undercoat he bought the other day is utterly rubbish (it's practically falling off the models - he'd followed the instructions to the letter).

So if anyone can recommend a replacement spray that can be picked up easily (he needs some in a hurry), it would be a great help :)

Thanks:)

Im sure that's you ;)

I have a model shop down the raod from my house, gonna get you the phone number if you want later on today or tommorow.

EDIT

Google for modelzone - there should be one close by to you.

I used to use Humbrol spray cans back in the day (matt black or matt white depending on the final colour), produces a much thinner coat from what I can remember and not very expensive either.

it is indeed the chaos black spray, it might just be a bad can although i would have to say it would be a very very bad can ;)

Kell_ee001 you can stop laughing now.

Thanks probedb, Nelson ay he shook it properly (he's done it dozens of times in the past).

Nothing wrong with a bit of modelling and painting. It's incredibly relaxing. :)

I personally used a random can of matt black spray paint I picked up from B&Q to undercoat my models. The undercoat isn't that important, as long as it's thin and even. Sometimes it's best to do a light spray, twice or three times rather than sitting there trying to get it all done in one spray (you lose the detail if you put on too much of a thick coat).

If it is acrylic water based for the top coat, then ordinary household undercoat is fine if thinned down.

Shame on you !

I never played with Space Marines, Terminators, Gene Stealers and played Blood Bowl with the Dwarf Giants. ;)

wouldnt surprise me if some oil or something hadnt gotten into the can during maufacture (have had this issue with other aerosol based paints)

also- make sure the models are cleaned before spraying...they can have all sorts of stuff on them from manufacture which wont help with paint adhesion...

that said- the paint is NEVER all that tough- it does chip/scratch quite easily

which is why you splodge paint models for playing, and save your really decent painting skills for models destined to be ornaments or entries in competitions.

take it back to the store- they can try it out for you and see. games workshop staff are usually very very helpful, and know an awful lot about painting (from the shops i've been in)

Hahahahaha games workshops *mocks*

Erm... plasti-kote for the win not that I have, or ever will take part in a table top game such as warhammer and the like *shudder*

i'll suggest that to brother, but i don't think he'll bother taking it back as it's a 30+ minute trip to get there and I think he upset one of the staff members the other day (the guy seemed a bit put out that my brother was going to order a new rulebook online as it was cheaper:p)

He cleaned the models, I was laughing at him with them at the sink :p

There are very few changes in the new rulebook, just go in the shop and read it for free.

play? i dont play...i just paint the models...never once played any tabletop wargame...

the forgeworld stuff ROCKS, but costs a fortune.

Well, whatever. Games workshop is normally associated with the actual playing of the games as well as the painting. Hence being called games workshop :p
